Artist description
Greenhouse is a tight funk band that knows how to get any crowd dancing. The band's music is rooted in and inspired by 70's funk, and the songs range from bluesy funk featuring Will Segar's soulful vocals, to jam-based instrumental grooves. A Greenhouse show never disappoints. The tight interplay between the four band members creates high energy, infectious grooves that keep people out of their seats all night. |

Artist History
Greenhouse came together as a band in early 1998 while the members were at college in New England together. Will, Rob, Ian and Matt all shared a love of blues and funk music and this mutual interest formed the basis of the group's sound. The group was known as Lucky Strike and for the next year and a half they played out at local bars and parties, developing their style of high energy, danceable funk music. By their senior year Lucky Strike was playing to capacity crowds weekly and had begun to play throughout New England. They shared stages with The Slip, The Itals, The Jazz Mandolin Project, and even had the chance to perform with Wyclef Jean. After graduating, Lucky Strike moved to Martha's Vineyard and changed their name to Greenhouse. The band played regularly at Martha's Vineyard bars and clubs including The Atlantic Connection, The Hot Tin Roof, and Offshore Ale Company. Greenhouse moved to Boston in the Fall of 2000 and since then has been performing regularly in such Boston music clubs as Harper’s Ferry, Bill's Bar and Great Scott, as well as in other venues throughout New England.
The band's time on Martha's Vineyard proved to be valuable in more than one way because it was on the island that Greenhouse was introduced to Jim Parr at Parr Audio/XLRecords. Jim agreed to sign the band to the label and produce their first full-length album. Recording began in the spring of 2001 and in mid-June the album was released. Aptly titled Lucky Strike, the album ranges from bluesy funk to jazzy groove music and features some of the bands most well known tunes along with newer material. Greenhouse and XL Records worked hard to capture the band's raw live sound and tight groove, and the album represents Greenhouse well.
