Artist History
A graduate of The Etobicoke School of the Arts and The University of Toronto's theater department, SEAN O'KEEFE is a singer/songwriter who first came to prominence as founding member and principle songwriter for FRESHWATER DRUM, a fixture on the Toronto club scene in the early 1990's. In 1995 Sean headed west to Vancouver where he started work writing and co-producing his first solo effort, Moving to Memphis. With moves to San Diego and San Antonio, Texas, the Americana inspired album was completed and immediately received glowing reviews from both sides of the border. A survey of media resources across the United States, including New Music Weekly, Billboard and all Gavin commercially reporting stations, rated six of the tracks on Moving to Memphis in their two highest categories of potential commercial success as singles, three of those tracks receiving the highest rating.
SEAN O'KEEFE'S music can best be described as a blend of radio friendly pop and a more rural sound reflecting country, folk and rock influences. Sean's songs are instantly recognizable with clever, tight arrangements and harmonies, bittersweet lyrics and irresistible melodies.
Sean's credits include winning first prize in the B.C. WRITE ON song-writing contest for his composition "Carry Me Away", and performances on MUCH MUSIC, City TV's BREAKFAST TELEVISION, VTV's VANCOUVER BREAKFAST and at the MARIPOSA FOLK FESTIVAL. He has shared the stage with such acts as, THE BARENAKED LADIES, THE PROCLAIMERS, EDIE BRICKELL and 54-40 and worked with Blue Rodeo's BOB WISEMAN and producer PAUL MILNER (Keith Richards, Robert Palmer).
Building on the American roots tradition that spawned The Band and O' Brother Where Art Thou, and the pop tradition behind the Beatles and the Barenaked Ladies, SEAN O'KEEFE has created a sound that is at once fresh and familiar, drawing on the past, but pointing to the future.
