Artist description
Samo (say it how you like) is a trio of musicians/producers currently based in Seattle. We are heavily influenced by sample based electronic music and the Brazilian dance music styles samba, and bossa nova as well as the live improvisational elements of dealing with electronics onstage. We are John Wicks, Steve Scalfati and Bob Heinemann. In addition to our work as a band, we provide original music and custom post-scores for film, television, and multimedia professionals ranging from motion picture directors to ad agency creatives. |

Artist History
The sound of SAMO is the result of the frantic living and late nights and the early mornings they've spent making their music in Seattle, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Europe, and Iran. Their music makes you forget who you are, where you live , and unlocks the possibilities of what you might want to become.
Samo are three close friends who assembled in the Seattle scene around 1998. Since then they have laid the foundation of a new sound that neither " the Rainy City" or anyplace else for that matter has ever heard. The Seattle scene hasn't generated any real excitement for nearly a decade. John Wicks and his friends are determined to turn that dismal situation around immediately.
Buzz: It's the elusive whirl that makes the music world run, and SAMO has it in abundance. Distinct from its all too common cousin, hype, it's an electric noise that can't be manufactured, a sort of unspoken consensus that here is a band that matters.
Impossibly cool and visually striking in their untypical "electronic crowd" attire of black leather, t-shirts, and Mediterranean complexions, the three "Samoans "tear through their set with sweaty exuberance as a capacity crowd are swept up by the energy of the "hooky" and imaginative melodies and danceable and sometimes breakneck rhythms. All of this performed with a sort of mysterious swagger reminiscent of 80's NYC punk.
SAMO's diverse musical influences include "Spaghetti Western" soundtracks by Ennio Morricone, electronic artists Amon Tobin, Bjork, and Boards of Canada; The Velvet Underground, 80's punk rock and hip hop and other ethnic groove-based urban styles.
