Artist History
Pond is based in Cambridge and started off with an Ensoniq ESQ-1 and Yamaha EMT-10 bought second hand from a friend at work. Soon afterwards, a Supernova II Rack got added, and One Three Five was born.
Many months later, MP3.com decided to rewrite Pond's artist history, which was very kind of them, but unfortunately they got the wrong Pond. I'm told that there's a third, German electronica Pond that released albums on the East German label "Amiga" in the eighties, too, so there's lots of us :-) Anyway, here's what the Encyclopedia of Popular Music has to say about Pond.
"Based in Portland, Oregon, USA, Pond consist of Chris Brady (bass, vocals), Charlie Campbell (guitar, vocals) and Dave Griebwasser (drums). Campbell and Brady are from Alaska, and met Griebwasser (a fully qualified microbiologist) in the Seattle area. They made their debut with the single "Young Splendor", followed by "Wheel", both of which were released on T/K Records. They supported Throwing Muses on tour, but reacted with indifference to press accusations that they peddled a mongrelized version of the grunge sound: "We just wanted danceable, driving drums, and lotsa melodies and hooks, and it all seems to come out murky and thick." A second album, The Practice Of Joy Before Death, used its title to debunk those press accusations, and offered varied, skewed rock, now more akin to Pavement than Dinosaur Jr."
