    Artist History
In 1994, the Cell Block hosted a show featuring some of Florida's best punk, including Donut Run, Core Chaotic and the Vacant Andys. Little did anyone know that a few years later these three groups would merge into what is now known as South Florida's "all-star band" of punk rock. Pivot is the brainchild of singer / songwriter Rob Helmsorig who created the band a little over a year ago. The original line-up consisted of Rob and drummer Jordan Keith, whose band, Core Chaotic, had just broken up. The duo added a bassist and played together for months, perfecting their sound and opening for bands like Screw32. In July, rhythm guitarist Jeremy Ruggles, Rob's long-time friend (the two played together in Donut Run,) joined the group to fill out the band's sound. November, 1997, was a big month for Pivot. They not only completed their current line-up by replacing the former bassist with Charlie Gleek, currently with the Vacant Andys, they also signed their first recording deal with the student-run record label, 'Cane Records. Pivot's personal influences are many and varied. They range from Eric Johnson, SRV and The Beatles (Rob,) to Led Zeppelin, the Beastie Boys, Bob Marley and Earth, Wind and Fire (Jordan), to Sunny Day Real Estate, Samiam and 7Seconds (Jeremy). The band's sound is mostly influenced by older punk rock such as the first two Green Day albums, Samiam's older material and Sense Field. It may have been fate that brought Pivot together, or maybe just some convenient planning. Either way, this "all-star band" has a promising future ahead of them. Their debut album, "Rock, Scissor, Papercuts," was released on the 'Cane Records label in February, 19

    Press Reviews
Rock Scissor Papercuts - "Anyone between Miami, Orlando, and Tampa remember Donut Run from a few years back? That seemed to be their stomping grounds. Anyhow, this is the band that formed from the remnants of that band. The straightforward pop-punk has grittied up a little, but it's still pretty much straightforward pop-punk with Green Day-ish vocals intact. Okay, they have grown up a bit, and the music has, too, but I can hear the pop punk spirit still even in the slower songs. I like this, not just because of the ghosts it invokes, but because the music has that certain somewhat-grown-up pop-punk charm that catches me in the right way." - Ink 19
