Artist History
Trendy yet traditional, Clover and Rachel offer a soul-lifting blend of original and roots-based folk music. Clover captures the crowd with his refined, raspy vocal style and it’s easy to hear the influences of Merle Travis, Reverend Gary Davis and Eddie Adcock in his incredible fingerstyle picking. Rachel, his wife, plays the upright bass and belts out her songs in a clear, true voice. Their pure harmonies and professional musicianship blend seamlessly together for a top-notch performance of high-energy entertainment. |

Press Reviews
"Folkmusic has always been about telling a story, keeping true to your roots, and most of all, entertainment. Clover and Rachel Carroll, a folk-grass comedy duo, has yet again managed to successfully provide the audience at Anderson Fair a bit of all three.
The now Austin duo, originally from fairly small towns in Texas, humor and delight the audience with physical comedy, telling stories about their inspirations, and showing off their amazing harmony not just as a musical act, but as husband and wife. Anderson Fair provides the intimacy of being in your own home while Clover and Rachelcomfort the audience by thoroughly entertaining them at venue's warm and high school theateresque atmosphere.
Clover is undoubtedly amusing and is noticeably talented with his highly anticipated pickin' of his resophonic guitar, of which he saves until the very end of the show. Rachel truly has a voice not to be reckoned with, clear and succinct, with enough of that southern-style to make you smile and appreciate their efforts to provide the audience with a worthy performance. They have a knack for playing off of each other especially in cases where Clover takes a moment to "tune because we care", Rachel keeps the audience distracted with her sweet stories and hersnappy one-liners.
Their cover of "Devil's Great-Grandson" (Sons of the Pioneers) inspired me to hunt for many of the influences of my favorite folk and bluegrass artists. Every time I have ever experienced their performances, Ilearn something new about folk and bluegrass that makes me want to sit down with them and hear their stories just as our forefathers told us. Clover and Rachel are always a delight to watch and I always anticipate their return to Houston."

“Clover and Rachel are just a joy and will really appeal to all of us who love traditional country and bluegrass music.” -Anderson Fair Newsletter, Nov. 2000
“This fine young group has become one of the favorites of the BABA audience. While they do not always play bluegrass, they always play in a style which captivates and entertains the audience. Clover Carroll has a good ear for fresh arrangements and gives his listeners a fine mix of old favorites and contemporary tunes. Clover’s guitar style is bright, easy to listen to, and especially effective in bolstering the band’s drive and sweetness. Rachel has an attractive lead and harmony voice that blends well with Clover’s. The music was excellent with a great combination of well-chosen, interesting material, good vocals, and blow-your-mind instrumentals. This group offers good music. They pleased old fans, won new ones, and have both old and new looking forward eagerly to their next performance.”-Bill Gaitlin, Bay Area Bluegrass Association Bulletin, July 2000 |
