Artist History Ariel's Worm began as a brother and sister duo in early 1999. Songwriter Mike Strype, along with vocalist sister Jennifer Strype, ventured into the pop/rock scene with outstanding success. In November of 1999, the song Beginner's Luck was picked off their demo CD and used on an episode of the hit TV show Dawson's Creek (episode #308, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner). In 2001 Mike Strype received the prestigious "Professional Demo Grant Award" recognizing outstanding unsigned songwriters from Canada's own FACTOR. During that time the band played all over Toronto at clubs such as Lee's Palace, The El Mocambo and The Horseshoe Tavern, developing a steadily growing fan base. Injected with the infectious grooves of drummer Michael Braun, their first EP Beginner's Luck was released in June 2001 and gained serious momentum. The year saw rotation on over 15 radio stations across Ontario, and the winning of a NOTA music award. The band had several radio showcases, and were mentioned in 'Canadian Music Network Magazine' (Issue #26), which cited the large number of requests for the song Don't Want to Sleep. Undertow, also off the Beginner's Luck, EP, was recently added to a Columbia Sportswear Compilation CD, promoting the Convert snowboard line With new bass player Paul Meaney, the band's blend of pop melodies with hard rock has created a unique and original sound all their own. Ariel's Worm has opened for See Spot Run and Platinum Blonde. Currently the band is putting the finishing touches on their first full length album, due out in early 2003. Recently they played the acoustic gallery at CBGB's in New York City, and countless shows this summer, opening for Alannah Myles, The Watchmen and Big Sugar, and Kim Mitchell.
