Artist History
Nano 3 united as a band in February of 2000, and has been playing around the Lehigh Valley for the past year now. Nano 3 consists of three former members of the band "Point Blank," Greg Snyder, Jerry Hunsberger and Jim Tews along with Andrew Collins. Jerry and Greg could probably be considered the founders of both Point Blank and Nano 3. They have been playing together for quite some time and the two have what they have dubbed "a musical tie that binds". Originally Nano 3 was formed as a side project that combined rock guitar with Jim’s sampled drumbeats. Eventually a full time drummer was needed. Following numerous auditions with still no hope, Jerry decided to call on friend and former band mate, Andy Collins. Now fully loaded, NANO 3 was on its way.
Nano 3 plays mostly original music and some eclectic covers. Their music can be best described as punk-funk-rock; it blends jazz, blues, punk, and funk. Their influences are as eclectic as their music. Nano 3 is highly influenced by such modern bands as Primus and Pearl Jam, but rely on the music of such greats as Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Meters, Rush and Pink Floyd to keep them anchored and creating good music. Nano 3’s music is more mature than their ages might have you think. They recently recorded their song "So What" at the Menagerie Recording Studio in Saylorsburg Pennsylvania for a compilation CD (Menagerie Recording Studio, Compilation Disc, Volume 1) featuring the best local talent from around the Lehigh Valley area.
Nano 3 is located in the Allentown area of Pennsylvania. The bands first showcase was at Mayfair, a music and arts festival in Allentown, PA. The experience spurred the three into wanting to get their music heard by a larger and mature audience. The band has also been featured on 95.1 WZZO’s Backyard Bands, at Casey’s in Allentown, The Funhouse in Bethlehem, and the Karma Club in East Stroudsburg.
"Fatmandu" is Nano 3’s debut CD. Recorded over a one year period at Snyder Studios in Wescosville Pennsylvania, featuring 15 original tracks including a remix of "Royal Flush" by DJ Blank. The album has been featured on 95.1 WZZO’s Backyard Bands and 91.7 WMUH’s Radio Wave Distortion. The disc was resently reviewed in MusicHead Magazine.
"Raising from the remains of Lehigh Valley band Point Blank evolves "The World of Nano 3." And overall life on the planet is experimental, lo-fi, and unpredictable. The disc begins in thrashy rock with uncharacteristically subdued vocals. But after that it's pretty much an anything-goes affair; tracks resembling sounds of San Fran bands Primus and Chrome-- or bearing the imprint of funk-rock stylistics-- a few quieter pieces near the end. But my favorite facet of their act is displayed in the three or so excursions in sampled & scratched dub grooves, with their in-house DJ at the fore. Ya might call it a diamond in the rough."
