Press Reviews
ok ok ok. I can't stress how wonderful this ep really is. The indie rockin' quartet, Movies With Heroes, coming from Lancaster, PA really knew what was up when putting this ep (their 3rd official release). It was co-produced by Greg Williamson (Sunny Day Real Estate, Jeremy Enigk) and Jay Sorrentino (Suddenly, Tammy!), and is proven to be a melodic rock piece of art. The band, as displayed on their ep The Slate, proves to be diverse in music styles, and in the conventions which they apply in their music. The vocals are soft (almost Jimmy Eat World-ish) and often beautifully harmonized. gosh. Listening to it right now, I really wish you would trust me on this and check out this ep. The whole cd reminds me of driving around in my car, at like 3am in the summer time with the car windows rolled down, taking slow curves on empty streets. It is so incredibly personal, and individual... yet warm and gushy. If Jimmy Eat World colided with Mock Orange, I think you would get a sound very similar to Movies With Heroes. They are very driving, but not in the "ok, lets put a scream here, and palm muted gutairs here," kind of mentality. They are driving-in a progressive, energetic, upbeat/yet lagging-type of feel. The guitar phrasing is so perfectly constructed, as is the composition of each and every song on this cd/ep. Every detail was paid attention to, right down to the amazing cd artwork. I usually can find something to gripe about when reviewing a cd. I've listened to this one about eight times already, and I really can't find a single thing to complain about. This is such a beautiful cd, flawless and I even dare to say timeless.
