Artist description
Lou Reed once said, "Your can't beat two guitars, bass and drums." Gerald Duncan would no doubt agree. As leader of the Accelerators, Duncan has employed that format to produce some of the best straight-ahead rock and roll to ever come out of North Carolina. Based in Raleigh, the Accelerators have two excellent discs on Profile Records to their credit: 1988's self-titled effort and 1991's Dream Train, both filled with the tough, smart, passionate rock and roll that put bands like the Blasters and Jason & the Scorchers on the map. Coast-to-coast touring and tons of critical acclaim followed. However, before the star-making machine ever had a chance to chew 'em up and spit 'em out, Duncan all but disappeared from the Raleigh scene. The last few years have seen Duncan resurface sporadically, playing the odd gig with a varying array of band members. The overwhelmingly enthusiastic response given those appearances prompted Duncan to put together a new batch of Accelerators. Duncan's talent for marrying incisive lyrics to hooks you could pull a truck with, filtered through the band's high-powered performance, has once again marked the Accelerators as a band to be reckoned with. If you like good, old fashioned, beer-and-sweat soaked rock and roll played by guys who play like they may not get another chance, the Accelerators just might be your next favorite band. ---Mike Piercy
