    Press Reviews
The Next Big Thing :by Lindsay Hutton Way "backintheday" there was a band by the name of New Math. Then they became The Jet Black Berries and made a few more albums then folded. They were really something. Now Gary Trainer, Roy Stein and Chris Yockel of the NM/JBB axis have got a new combo together with April Laragy pictured here and Scott Ostrowski called The Atomic Swindlers. They trade in a grandiose swinging glam long considered lost to the world and add a little punk rock undertow as one might expect. City Newspaper SEPTEMBER 3, 2003 This week's musical highlights Atomic Swindlers ROCK Space cowgirl and Rochester rock 'n' roll troublemaker April Laragy's voice is rich, pliable, and resonantly haunting. She leads The Atomic Swindlers through four tracks of intense, new wave-ish rock 'n' roll on their new EP, Intergalactic Lesbian Love Songs (a mere sampling of what's to come this fall when they release a new full-length platter). She vacillates effortlessly from coquettish girl-next-door to extraterrestrial dominatrix with bursts of passion and excitement in between. The band, with a newly added keyboardist, exhibits a tight-as-Bowie sound with one foot still in the glam-rock grave. And if you can take your eyes off Laragy for more than a couple of seconds, the rest of the band is equally sexy and menacing. The Atomic Swindlers are original cool --- Frank De Blasé
