Artist description
Welcome to the work of a sister spirit.
Marshell Jones preaches daily from her gospel
of self-love.
With her debut CD Evidence of Things Not Seen,
the New York-based vocalist/song-writer from
Baltimore, is sweet enough to share some of
her insights.
A soul-caressing melange of funky jazz vocals, Marshell's original compositions entice the ear with their lyrical wit and gutsy melodies. A master of the art of improvisation, she creatively synthesizes music and poetry to weave stories of life, love and other unsolved mysteries.
This is sonic incense, tae-bo for our conciousness, the steaming medicine of herbal tea. This CD sounds like Baltimore & Berkeley, Brooklyn & Brazil, Senegal, Hawaii and somewhere close to you. Can you tell? Listen like There's No Tomorrow...
In collaboration with some of the most inventive instrumentalists on the New York scene, Evidence of Things Not Seen highlights Marshell's amazing ability to expand the possibilities of the first instrument: the human voice.
In a most evocative way, Marshell integrates her instrument into the rich soundscape of the ensemble, traversing an impressive spectrum of cultures, times and emotions.
Whether working it out duo-style with acoustic bass or funking it up South Asian-style with a sitar in the full-band mix, Marshell's music is about risk-taking and envelope-pushing.
Evidence of Things Not Seen is a sure testament to this creatively audacious but consistently classy act!

Press Reviews
Time Out New York music critic, Mike Wolf, has written: " Marshell Jones has a strong voice [that] sings, wails, howls, whispers, chants . . . .".
