Press Reviews
Band:Wolf King
Album:Echoes Of The Great Song

Back a few weeks ago, when I reviewed a comp that Wolf King was on, I mentioned that he has some great music that is buried in effects. Well now I am listening to a full album and the full album just confirms what the two songs on the 7Th House told me. This is indeed some great stuff. The effects almost give it a flatline feel, but if you try and listen to the music behind all those effects, you will here some potentially great songs. This is in the vein of slow industrial rock. It has a slightly dark feel, but not like vampire dark. More like hanging out in a grave after hours for a secret keg party type dark. The vocals sound good with the effects, but if the effects were done more strategically it would enhance the music instead of bury it. I have heard that this was recorded entirely on the computer and that is the reason for the effects.
All of that said, let talk about the great music that is there. As I said before, the pace is a slow one. This is more Danzig or Clash type slow and not power ballad slow. This has a total punk vibe to it throughout. It might be good if he picked up the pace every once in awhile just to mix things up so that an entire album doesn't drag. Not a major change mind you, but just a slightly faster chorus every few songs. There was something about "Broken Too" that left me taping my foot. I think I would pick this as the album highlight. "Ghost" has kind of a cool vibe as well.
Overall this is what I would call a diamond in the rough. There is some major potential here, but it does need some work. I would add a few more time changes and find a way (it's very possible) to make the vocal effects more strategic. If Wolf King did these things he would be a major force to be reckoned with. Would I recommend this cd? Yes, but only because I think this guy is headed for greatness and his 'early work' will become great collector items when it happens. Keep it up Wolf King, I'm curious to hear how your talent progresses over time.
