Artist description
The Loons are an original high energy outfit,
whose songs & performances reflects their strong
mid '60s influences without being an Oldies or
Nostalgia band. They make Now music which is timeless.
The bands image is second to none with their love
to "late '60s swinging London" fashion and rural
screams for more and more.
The Loons take their name from late Screaming Lord Sutch's
"Monster Raving Loony Party" in the UK. |

Artist History
The Loons formed in 1996 as a four-piece in San Diego,
CA. They played numerous gigs around California,
before recording their independent debut album "Love's
Dead Leaves" in 1999. Producer of the album was the
legendary Ebbot Lundberg from Sweden's "Soundtrack
Of Our Lives". After a succsessful tour in Germany
in 1999. The band reformed with original "Loon" Mike Stax ,
an emmigrant from the UK which has been in the San Diego
music scene for some years (former bands include The
Tell Tale Hearts & The Hoods) and new members Anja Diabolik
(formerly of the Diaboliks from London, UK and Thee Cherylinas
from Germany)on bass aswell as Jeremy Reid (d) and Marc
Schroeder (g) from San Diego.
The band is now a five-piece with the addition of
second guitarist Zeus Cervas, who joined back in
the spring of 2000. With two guitars in the frontline,
the Loons now have their most powerful(and most international!)
line-up to date.
The most memorable gig of 2000 was at the Las Vegas Grind festival
where the band delivered an ecstatically received Sunday night set,
in front of 2000 people.
For the occasion The Loons were joined for two songs by
Phil "Fang" Volk of the Paul Revere & the Raiders.
Fang supplied lead vocals, second bass and fancy footwork
on the Raiders gems "Get It On" and "Just Like Me",
giving the crowd a taste of the days of Where the Action Is.
Other than some occasional live gigs, the band have been busy
writing and rehearsing new material for their second album,
which should be recorded some time this year.
New songs such as "June Bride", "The Search",
"Gettin' Better" and "Orphan Wing 1916" have
all been getting a great reaction in the live set,
so anticipation is high.
The Loons are not signed to a record company and support
and record themselves with a little help from
independent labels.
In 2001 Loons members Mike and Anja tied the knot
in Julian, CA.

Press Reviews
The Orange County Weekly, hailed the album as a
"masterpiece", describing the Loons as "a blast
furnace of an art-driven garage band ...
This music teems with the dementia of such bona
fide American whackos as Arthur Lee, Sky Saxon,
Sean Bonniwell and Roky Erickson."
"Featuring ace production, real songwriting and
an overall cohesiveness (i.e. it plays like an
album, not just a collection of songs), this
could easily be one of the best LPs of 1999,"
said New York's Sound Views.
