    Artist History
Somsara: Samsara \säm-'sä-rä\ n, often cap: In Hinduism and Buddhism, the force generated by a person's actions. The perpetual flux of existence that brings subjects and objects together in fateful combinations. Samsara is the round of birth, life, death, rebirth, renewed life, and then again death, ad infinitum. It is existence determined by fate, the intricate inviolable web of karmic indebtedness that exists between beings. In 1995, three girls and one boy from Fremont, CA crossed paths and quickly attained a friendship. Coincidence or fate? In search to get their message out to the world with music, Somsara was born. With Monica Demaray on vocals and guitar, Adrian "Raaas" Ramos on guitar and vocals, Vivien Buhain on bass and Cara Madden on drums, these four created a sound unlike others, combining an army of influences that range from Bikini Kill, the Cure, and Sonic Youth. Just sixteen and seventeen years of age, they embedded their music upon the minds of hundreds of teenagers during high school showcases and local underground park gatherings. Quickly, they got attention and acquired a following. Their music is a mix of hard punk, subtly catchy riffs submerged in white noise, energetic beats and lyrics with both meaning and a hint of revenge. They are influenced by the world around them, and more so with those they have come in contact with. Overall, the sound is unique and to the point. In 1996, they parted ways for reasons still unknown and found each other again in 1999. This reunion was something a lot of people had been waiting for - to put a little life in a local scene that seemed so bored with copycat bands. They've played in venues such as Scooters in Fremont, Munoz Hall in Fremont, Kicks in San Leandro, Kicks II in Oakland, The Cactus Club in San Jose, Gilman in Berkeley, Paradise Lounge in San Francisco and even the United Airlines Fleet Week Celebration 2000. They have just finished some recorded material for a full album tentatively titled "Here be Dragons" They've gone far from where they were at just sixteen and are now ready to take on whatever it is that lies ahead of them. Press Reviews
the sound is great... I assume you've been in contact with Kill Rock Stars? You're better than the bands you're influenced by, and I've listened to riotgrrl stuff since the beginning. Great job! It's refreshing to hear intelligent, listener-friendly punk, with no ska influences. - Emilysshadow
