Artist description
Michael Best, with Mark McQuire on drums, has performed as a solo artist, and with a number of groups. The last group he worked with was "BestLegend" in the early nineties.
The important contribution to the overall sound of this collection is the musical authors of the material. The following songs were constructed with lyrics written by William T. Wright, with Michael Best composing the music for each of the songs.
1 - Voices in the Night 4 - Peachtree Woman
2 - Out of the Dark 5 - Dixieland
3 - A Million Years
All other compositions were developed by Best alone. |

Artist History
Best grew up being a fan of many artists, but the two that contributed more to his musical influences are Elvis and Paul McCartney. Paul McCartney is the best songwriter of the latter 20th Century. He maybe the greatest songwriter that ever lived! His work with the Beatles defined POP music for all the other artists of that period, and those that followed. Best studied his writing, and then wrote in a manner that permitted McCartney's influence to be readily seen. MAC created many great songs, in many different styles. It would be impossible to cite his masterpieces without listing in excess of 50 songs! But the song that Best stood in greatest admiration of was "Uncle Albert and Admiral Halsey" from the RAM album. It was MAC's solo work that gave the greatest depth to introspection. Michael Best grew up during the 70's when McCartney was focused upon his solo years, or with WINGS. It was those songs that defined that generation of POP music fans. If one carefully inspects Best's work, one would find many simularities in the styles of writing to those of McCartney. Best also is quick to point out that McCartney continues to issue wonderful music, always giving more of himself to his fans. McCartney continues to set the example for all the many gratful people that have looked to him for musical guidance. McCartney has shown that age is not important in music. One continues to enjoy music for an entire lifetime. Best is just one of thousands of artists who owe so much to McCartney. All musicians tend to engage in a "maturation" process of various musical groups, etc while seeking to develop their unique style. Michael Best actually started in a hard rock ensemble known as "Rigor Mortis", during which he began to write with current partner, William T. Wright. Wright, an accomplished drummer, tended to add the "Lennon" to Best's "McCartney", a style that continues to this day. Notice the contrast of material written exclusively by Best, and the songs that have lyrics written by Wright.
Best followed his first group with extensive solo work until he joined the Montgomery group, "Star". More solo work followed before the establishment of the "Michael Best Trio" with Richard Cherry on keyboards. Cherry is known thoughtout the southern states as a musical genius, and has a broad scope of musical accomplishments, including marvellous original compositions. It was the early nineties when Best formed the BestLegend band that played for years, primarily in Alabama. It was within this framework tht Best developed his unique style of writing and performance. Probably the most important contributions to this music is the production work of Richard Cherry, who has toured the Southern States for many years, in addition to his work with the Cherry Orchard Recording Studio located in Atlanta & Montgomery. |
