    Artist History
Caught the electronic music bug just after high school in 1995, listening to a lot of weird avant-garde electro, minimal dub-techno and emotive trance. But it wasn't until I heard cuts from DJ Crush and Shadow's early Mo' Wax releases that I began to seriously think about writing electronic music. Other early influences that helped push me toward music production include Squarepusher, 69, Luke Vibert, Aphex Twin, Maurizio and Hawtin's Concept series, but it was DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing" that really inspired me to start creating. In 1998, I began writing instrumental hip hop and experimental breaks as part of a local music collective, Chromatique. One of these tracks won in the electronic category of the 1999 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, and in late 2000, I was able to tour the U.S. as a sound engineer aboard the Contest's mobile recording studio, supporting such acts as Macy Gray, Mos Def, Everlast and Santana. Sometime during this period, I began to shift musical gears into deep, melodic house and dark techno, and I've been working with these styles ever since. In July 2001, I started looking to provide an outlet for my house and techno creations, and microlife was born.
