Artist description
Emo-rock stylings. Poetic lyrical effusion. Driving double-kick. One critic called Dividing Zero “an indie God Forbid.” Bridging the gap between genres while yet retaining a unique and energetic feel, Dividing Zero combines the superb songwriting of Matt Winters, smoldering rhythms of drummer Chris Oquist, and excellent guitar work by Kenny Czadzech. The band was formed when Chris, having just moved to the United States from Chile, was invited to join the band. Chris’s Dream Theater-meets-Deftones approach to drumming was an unexpected but welcome addition to the music. Matt continued to write great songs at breakneck speed, and, in the summer of 2001, Dividing Zero went in-studio to create their debut album Walking Alive. One listen of “Shoot to Kill” proves that Dividing Zero’s work is no joke. The album’s nine songs combine pop-hooks, flawless arrangement, inspired and intense lyrics, and colorful drumming to produce a sound all its own. The band’s live show is similarly powerful, heavy guitars leading the way for a flurry of drum hits and pop-punk vocals. Dividing Zero has had the pleasure of playing with such groups as Planes Mistaken for Stars, Pilot to Gunner, Few and Far Between, and Small Brown Bike. Currently under construction is an official website, and in the works, more material and some tour dates. Look out. |
