Artist History
Since the age of thirteen, Chris Dunnett (pronounced Da-nay) has been a student of guitar technique and theory. Exhibiting much more than technical ability or simple mechanics, Chris's playing unites melody, feeling, and style into a seemingly effortless and thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. He has been teaching guitar for over 17 years and has influenced students of all ages in learning to express themselves musically.
Chris began his musical career by playing acoustic guitar. Since then, he has become well versed in a variety of styles, ranging from numerous rock forms to flamenco, classical, fusion, and "finger-style" new age. His songwriting began soon after he picked up the guitar, and includes all the previous styles, as well as Pop, Country and dance music.
The more methods Chris has experimented with and mastered over the past 20 years, the more well rounded and entertaining his songwriting has become. His song structures are often influenced by such greats as Jim Steinman and Mike Oldfield. His lyrics tend to draw on feelings and experiences, which he hopes all listeners can relate to. In his instrumentals, Chris creates moods and textures with his guitar parts, rather than "just solos". In addition to playing guitar, Chris also plays keyboards and mandolin.
Chris's acoustic musical influences include Rik Emmett, Nancy Wilson, Alex Lifeson, Acoustic Alchemy, Al Dimeola, The Gypsy Kings, Strunz & Farah, Peppino D'Agostino, Ottmar Liebert, Wolfgang Mozart, J.S. Bach, and Looney Tunes cartoons in the list of those who have helped shape his well-rounded personal style.
In addition to gaining recognition for his production skills, writing, and musicianship, the following are some of Chris' other accomplishments:
He has appeared in and received great reviews in numerous music magazines in the U.S. and internationally. Some of these include Burrnn!!! (Japan), Underground Empire (Germany), Music Connection, Marshall Law, Recording, (U.S.), and other magazines in Italy, France, England, and Belgium.
One of his group efforts, CHARACTER, created a self-titled EP which received airplay in Germany, Greece, and the U.S. National airplay in 22 states was broadcast via the Z-Rock Network.
In 1991, Chris was chosen to audition as one of eight guitarists nationwide for Lita Ford's band.
Chris has gained recognition for his acoustic guitar playing from Ritchie Blackmore, John Stix of Guitar magazine, guitar virtuosos David T. Chastain, Scotty Anderson and Rik Emmett. Stevie Blaze of Lillian Axe liked Chris' playing and writing so much, he co-produced a song on CHARACTER's self-titled EP.
He has several independent releases with various band projects, and has scored music for two films.
Chris just released his Flamenco-based CD, entitled El Samuraichi. His live acoustic performances cover the CD and more. Add some Celtic music, some new age, some of his older works, some "twists" on current rock and pop songs, and you have an exciting, multi-faceted show. He makes use of alternate tunings and a digital phrase sampler during the gig, which gives a full spectrum of sound to the intimate, warm event. Chris interacts with his audience as he plays, and will take requests and even answer questions or give advice to other musicians if asked. His over two decades of expertise shine through each and every piece in the sets, and audiences come from near and far to enjoy his music.
