Artist description
Transcendence pricked the ears of critics and music lovers all over the world with their debut CD, last year’s RISE AND SHINE, a category defying and eclectic mix of modern rock and world music. The album charted as high as #1 on college radio stations all over America and gathered good support from modern rock stations—specialty shows, fueled by the emotionally charged single, Better luck next time, and the dreamy pop of Do you know who you are. The album received rave reviews in the national press, being added to favorites lists of many critics. The band became known not just for their unique and catchy songwriting but for being socially and politically active as could be heard on one the album’s more experimental stand out tracks, the Journey. Several of the album’s songs were used in the independent film Chat and on various shows for television. The group was named Best Unsigned Artist of 2002 by the Big Time Talent Show in November.
In the press Transcendence have been compared to U2, Radiohead, Bowie, or Coldplay, although probably for no other reason than the fact that they do not have the typical “alternative rock” sound that is predominant on top-40 radio today. The band has a distinctive sound that has won them a large and loyal fan base all over the world owing to the unique and highly passionate vocals of the group’s singer Ed Hale, and the sonic majesty and mayhem created by Fernando Perdomo’s guitar work. Think glam meets world and you get an idea of the alternative to the alternative sound that RISE AND SHINE offered when it first appeared on record store shelves.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding their highly anticipated new CD entitled SLEEP WITH YOU, due to hit the streets July 1st, and even more surrounding their alleged newer project Nothing is cohesive, just recently started while waiting for the Sleep with you CD to come out. It has a heavier, more straight-forward rock sound to it, rather than the more ethereal and cerebral tendencies of their debut. The new album features the songs Minnie Driver, Super hero girl, and Vicodin, which are already staples of the band’s live shows. More punch, less effects, slamming bass and drums, roaring guitars, and breathtaking vocals. The band is well known for their electrifying, high energy live performances, and is getting ready to kick off another tour of the east coast and mid-west in early summer to promote the new album.
Transcendence is Ed Hale on vocals, Fernando Perdomo on guitar, Jon Rose on keyboards, Roger Houdaille on bass, and Ricardo Mazzi on drums.
