Artist description
The sound of The Spirit Valentine swings wildly from a swirling maelstrom of distorted guitars, beautifully lush melodies, catchy riffs and hooks, and driving rhythms to more starkly subtle and atmospheric darker moods. At all times, the band manages to capture vivid, raw emotion through their masterfully crafted songs and deeply insightful, haunting lyrics. By blurring the lines between several genres and mixing goth, punk, metal, and even pop, they have created a completely new and truly original sound. |

Artist History
The Spirit Valentine was unleashed by Jeffrey Levy in late 1989 in Philadelphia and is bent on nothing less than completely redefining the boundaries of rock music. Now relocated to both New York City and Berlin, the band has seen various incarnations since it began; the current line-up features Jeffrey Levy on vocals and guitar, Mark Nilsen on guitar, Giselle Hamburg on bass, and Richard Hutchins on drums. The band is also joined onstage by Kay McDaniel on keyboards. To date, The Spirit Valentine has released three independent full-length albums on Ultraviolet Records/AMEROCKA: Name Your Poison (2003), Blue Judas Kiss (1996), and their debut, A Shower Of Sparks (1992). The band continues to work on their ambitious new album slated for release in late 2004. In August 2000, The Spirit Valentine became the first American rock band EVER to play mainland China, dazzling a crowd of 12,000 in Beijing at the largest and most expensive concert in that country! The Spirit Valentine will be touring constantly until the day they hang up their guitars once and for all. Look for them in 2004 on their European summer tour. Press Reviews
*The Musician's Exchange:There's a lot of great playing on this disc and the production is of the finest quality...a talented band with some great music...Bowie fans will love it *The Music Paper:Excellent...moody, often dark, marked by Bowie-esque male vox and swirling guitars *East Coast Rocker:Wow...pretty cool...highly talented at what they do *Philadelphia City Paper:They flex some muscle in the midst of the introspectiveness, painting dark soundscapes with lumbering rhythms and guitars given plenty of time to distort and drone to their heart’s content *Big Shout Magazine:It’s definitely a paean to goth music but it’s got a definite rock edge that keeps things moving along with an above-board energy. The songs’ moody hollows and misty corners are haunting, but not darkly so; there’s too much movement to keep you lingering in them for very long. |
