Artist History
L.I.N. formed back in 1991 when a bunch of sound-wave terrorists met under the seal of acid-house. Their first release on 12" entitled "L.I.N. Code" was produced by the new-born label "New Sound Records" in Ferrara-Italy.
L.I.N.'s first attempt in the music industry was surprisingly voted as record of the year by two main electronic/dance magazines in Italy and was to be found in many year-polls in several other papers.
In the echo of the unexpected sudden success of this debut, the band decides to launch the video-version titled "When the reality was very different", enphasizing the band's involvement in multimedia. L.I.N.'s blending of minimalist electro-core with 3d art videoclips made it happen and the results were immediate: Videomusic (Italian National) played L.I.N. in heavy rotation and features the band in different live shows, in interviews and viedeoscreens. As a result , L.I.N.'s popularity increased and in 1992 the band released a new psychotic 12" titled "The Fractal" on KLF Music/Discomagic one of the biggest italian record labels. The record was an immediate hit with heavy airplay on national and international radio stations and in only a few weeks entered the Spanish radio charts. This hit soon became a reference point within the cyberpunk culture due to its interactivity between sound experimentation electronic animated pictures, virtual reality, and the exaltation of cultmovies such as "Blade Runner" or disacrating short stories by W.Burroughs transposed in L.I.N.'s atmospheres. Hereafter two viedos followed: "DD sky" and "I see you".
Right after their first european tour in 1993, which included Germany, Spain other than italy, L.I.N. hit the recording studio to brew their new masterpiece, another 12" release, which was entitled "Frames". The videoclip was voted as the music video of the year by the italian national tv Videomusic.
Impressed by L.I.N.'s art atmosphere's and musical output, Adi Newton (one of the international leaders of the cyberpunk movement), soon after contacted the band.
He offered the promising band the opportunity to support standard setting project DVA on their italian tour.
After leaving KLF Music/Discomagic, L.I.N. decided to sign to Florence based Sub/Mission, which was eager to give the band the opportunity to brew their first full-length effort. During the recording sessions started in the fall of 1995, the band had been introduced by a number of legendary names of the electronic music scene who offered their contribution to their debut album and its two singles.First of all Paolo Favati and FM of Pankow, Lassigue Bendthaus,Test Dept.and former Neon member Marcello Michelotti all had very important roles in the realization of L.I.N.'s three releases in 1996.
After hooking up with a new line-up in 1998, L.I.N. is ready for a new full-length album "La Folie" on Dune Records.
The new members are Andrea B.on guitars and UBQT, a california-based MC who introduces a new and cosmopolitan aspect in the syncopated vocals. Moreover the new album features the sensual vocals of JUNE and the contributions of the PYB (Plug Your Brain)collective.
In the meantime L.I.N. appears on the "Metatoys Vol.1" compilation released in the winter of '98 on Dune Records/CPI/Polygram with "A Six Foot Statue" also released on video with the collaboration of the brand Diesel.
