Artist description
Three piece from the North East of England, playing melodic songs with deceptive lyrics. Oh, well, that's what we would like to be.Really we're just three guys. But this music is ours, and hopefully yours. And we meant it.And actually four guys now that Gordon has joined toadd a little something. Musicianship mainly. |

Artist History
Been around far too long in most people's opinion. We met, we fell in love (thankfully not with each other - mainly with girls called Sue)We wrote, we recorded, we learnt to play, we recorded again...And so it goes...Currently in the studio recording an EP for release summer 1999Fuller history? Here goes;AN OCCASIONAL DIVERSION: THE INCOMPLETE ELEPHANT THURSDAYIn 1995 Elephant Thursday had been together for 5 years, or 260 Thursdays - much longer than they expected, or most people wished. In that time their music had progressed from naive melodies badly played on out of tune, cheap instruments to naive melodies badly played on much more expensive instruments.Their infrequent appearances at work leaving parties contributed directly to the fall of unemployment on Teesside, and their regular appearances at acoustic evenings in Middlesbrough were largely responsible for the growth of grunge music. In their final phase their music had undergone a change, caused mainly by Ian's growing allergy to guitars - especially those played by Paul and Chris. Paul reverted to playing only acoustic guitar, believing it better to play one instrument badly than several. Chris willingly took over on bass and harmonica demonstrating exactly the opposite philosophy.Another change was in the sound engineering with Dale replacing Bry who replaced Matt but ran away to America rather than face another Elephant tape. But seriously - it was great. Some of it could have been played better, and much of it recorded better, but mostly it worked. None of it sounded like anyone else. All of it sounded like us. We wrote and sang about things that mattered to us: life, love, family, politics, tv, ICI, school. Oh, and football. It was ours and hopefully yours and it was fun. We hope you enjoyed it. We thought it was really quite good.I guess you had to be there... |
