Artist History
I'm Eldin Green from Top Secret Records. I
have been involved in music since 1962 when
I first picked up a harmonica given to me by
my grandfather. I started my musical training
in 1963 with the clarinet, moved into the
saxophone in 1964, and in 1967 I was given a
guitar. I have been exploring music in
different genres from that time, studying jazz,
classical, and popular music. Along the way I
have learned to play many instruments and
today continue by playing guitar, tenor sax,
keyboards, vocals, and occasionally the
other varied related intruments during
recording sessions. My recording career
began in 1969 with a mono condensor mic
cassette tape player. I have since recorded
music in studios used by artists such as
Stevie Wonder, Kenny Loggins, Jimi Hendrix,
and The Doors. I have also been very
fortunate to work with some very talented
musicians in my career including John
Mayall and Three Dog Night. I currently work
on the north coast of California with bands
like the Mike Craghead Trio, Sluggo,
Spudgun, and Mixed Nuts. I now own a little
recording studio and indie record company
called Top Secret Records and I'm always
involved in a project or live music. Hey, I'm
just a working musician that keeps on
playing! Many of my musician friends have
given up over time, but I love to play and have
continued through all these years. I hope you
like my music... Thanks for stopping by! |

'Mad River' Album features power pop with heart
By Kevin L. Hoover
Eldin Green's new album, "Mad River" is
jam-packed with ideas in the form of
catchy and substantive melodies, clever arrangements and
lyrics that dare to be alternatively enigmatic, amusing and
ironic. In short, intelligent power pop with some heart.
"The Mad River" starts off the album with some local
color and a good hook. Green showcases his horn playing
and arranging abilities on "Minimum Wage," a brisk shuffle
with cruel insights into the joys of inadequate compensation.
"Crazy," is a cool scorcher with fine, tasteful horn
arrangements and some sizzling guitar. Next is an amusing
instrumental meditation titled "Rain." After the easy-rolling
"I Can't Wait," the upbeat, country-flavored "Organ Grinder"
rounds out side one. Square dance, anyone?
Side two begins with "Jungle John," which rollicks
adequately despite being underpercussed and never
achieving its full kinetic potential. Nice backwards vocals,
though. "My Maya Papaya" is a focused rocker strongly
reminiscent of the work of Steve Winwood and Todd
Rundgren in their one-person band albums. As a bonus,
the vocals are downright Lennonian. "This Magic Place"
delivers an almost Pink Floyd feel and some creative sibilance,
though the honking sax might be a bit jarring for some.
There is a jewel-like little instrumental bit nested in right after
the sax solo that might have been extended, in an ideal world.
Green's goal for "Mad River" was to have a "radio
station on a cassette." It would have to be college radio, then.
The corporate stations would never tolerate this degree of
musical originality and diversity.
