Artist description
Well-known as one of Madonna's longtime featured vocalist,Donna De Lory has written, produced and independently distributed her newest album, Bliss. Donna and her musical partner cellist, Cameron Stone came from wildly varying backgrounds to forge a common bond in their love of music. For Donna, music was ingrained in hersoul literally before her birth in Malibu Canyon, CA. Her grandfather played upright bass and cello for the Warner Bros. Studio Orchestra, her father was a studio musician and producer for people like The Beach Boys, Phil Spector and Glen Campbell, and her mother a singer/dancer. Donna was formerly signed with MCA Records as a solo artist in 1993, where her self-titled debut spawned a number-one hit in Japan and a top 10 song on the Billboard dance charts. In 1994, after finishing a world tour with Madonna, she hooked up with now partner Cameron Stone and created the music for BLISS. The current band includes Cameron Stone (Tracy Chapman, Jewel) on cello and guitar, bassist, Mark Browne (Melissa Etheridge), Donna De Lory playing harmonium, werlitzer & percussion and drummers, Jay Bellerose (Paula Cole)and Quinn. Press Reviews
"I've always admired Donna's voice; her songwriting is poignant and heartfelt"- Madonna
"Donna's voice is gorgeous and ethereal, but then she'll let it wail. Her singing is a beautiful combination of worlds." - Paula Cole
It's OK if Donna De Lory's name strikes a chord within. Throughout the late '80s and the '90s, De Lory has been an integral component of Madonna's backing vocalist ensemble, supplying deft diva wailings on recordings and live concerts. Of course, she was also signed to MCA for a hot second in 1992 (remember her dancefloor hit "Just A Dream"?). More recently, her supple voice has graced the grooves of recordings by Jewel, Enrique Iglesias, and Shawn Colvin. On her fine debut, "Bliss," De Lory seamlessly moves from singer-in-the-shadows to singer-in-the-spotlight. With influences ranging from Kate Bush and Sting to Jonatha Brooke, De Lory has created an ethereal, roots-rooted soundscape. Songs like "Te Amo," "On And On," "Hold Me Now,"and "Please" are pure rays of light. - Gavin Magazine
