electron-rock idiom envisioned as early as 1997 as a way out of the more traditional songwriting daniel was practicing as a member of ozma. a first album titled "sound mind" was recorded in 1998 and 1999. live version of the contraband formed to play shows starting in march 2000. |

the contraband is who/whatever is backing db up while he's singing/playing guitar on his electron-rock songs. the contraband consists of a powerbook G3 wired to a roland xp-30 synth (among other electronics) and also frequently includes live musicians such as drummer pat edwards [of ozma]. |
