    Artist History
Scattered . . . from the looks of them, you’d never think they played in a punk band. No dyed red hair, no leather jackets, and no sticker-laden guitars. But good music is not about treading trodden trails. The four boys are real, coming straight from the quiet, suburban town of Longmeadow, MA– a town more known for its annual crafts festival than its music scene– and quickly working their way into teenagers’ CD players and hearts. The band finds their humble roots like an unpredicted mixture of chemicals in your high school science class– four kids from different bands who decided to come together and play the music that matters to them. "We all listen to different stuff, but the songs really come together. We love the music we play," admits bassist Dave Bielunis. "It makes us work and practice hard, but it’s worth every ounce of sweat," chimes guitarist Bill Knaus. The music of Scattered is, equally, a matter of pure dedication. "I play the drums in my band, in my head, and even in the shower. I just love it," concedes Matt Samble, drummer of the band. The diverse influences of the musicians in Scattered have combined to create a melting pot of influences for this rock-based quartet. Not surprisingly, Scattered’s music is a mixture of different genres and elements. From metal-envious palm-mutes to staggered pauses to techno beats, the music constantly throws curves and change-ups to the listener expecting fast balls. Mixing pulsating, distortion-drenched power chords with raw lyrics, Scattered bravely wears their hearts-on-their-sleeves with every chord and every word. This year, especially, has been crucial in steering Scattered’s perception and direction. As first year college students, the band has faced the trials and tribulations of leaving home and loved ones behind for the first time. The band’s full-length album, aptly-titled Long Distance Relationship, marks a band discovering themselves through music. Through the viscous, sustained chords of "Next Year" rings, "How are you doing this year? Well, I’m fine, it’s kind of lonely here. Have you forgotten about me? We should hang out more next year, but if not, don’t forget I’m here." The band, started in January 2001, has been playing shows since a month from its inception, garnering a legion of fans along the way. "I love playing a good show and really getting the crowd into it," says Matt Samble. The energy of the band’s music is augmented with the physicality of its musicians, creating blazing sets, and getting entire crowds jumping and listening. Scattered is truly a band on the rise, with a fan base already well into the thousands. The band recently opened for the University of Massachusetts Spring Concert in front of acts Ludacris, Guster, and the Roots before an estimated crowd of 8,000. Other accomplishments include winning a Battle of the Bands competition at Club Earth in Wallingford, Connecticut, appearing in a front-page, a feature article in local newspaper the Union News, and an independently produced full-length album Long Distance Relationship. With a boundless future, keep your eyes, and most importantly– your ears– tuned in to Western Massachusetts’s new rock start-ups: Scattered.
