    Artist History
in 1993, nine inch nails released the "fixed" remix EP. from the moment i heard the first track, i was mesmerized, as i had never heard anything like it before. i tried duplicating the impossibly fast cuts and edits using only tape decks with only a little success. being young and not too bright, i hadn't thought about using my computer to do it. (it was a 486-33 with a SoundBlaster 16. it would have handled it, just slowly) A year later i was putting together crude electronic tracks using my laptop (486-50 with a whopping 12 megs of ram - handled it quite nicely actually) and keyboards and microphones to create source material. it wasn't really good by any means, but i learned alot about layering and things which i still use today. i wasn't trying to "be a musician" as much as i was just trying to make something and have fun doing it. i kept this up until around 1997 when i first found the program ReBirth. it was fun, but i have to admit that the sound made by the 303's never floated my boat, but 808's (as early rebirth didn't have the 909) can always be distorted into a sound that is at least halfway presentable. a short time later, i found Master Zap's Little Drummer Boy software which i loved because it would let me sequence any wav's i could get my hands on and mixdown wav loops out of the sequences i made. before long i was using Little Drummer Boy (and a short time later, HammerHead) to make really crude beat-oriented tracks. (funny side note, i used windows 3.1 SOUND RECORDER (yes, soundrec.exe) to do alot of edits. it's a bitch, but this was before i could afford software or an internet connection to download shareware. alot of this early work ended up on mp3.com (it's still up http://www.mp3.com/mac623 - my mp3.com id number was only 1411, how small is that?) out of a stroke of pure ridiculousness, i had hit #1 and #2 on the worldwide electronic charts simultaneously on mp3.com for a short while. i moved on to doing some more experimental (albeit technologically limited due to my lack of hardware and software) electronic music for a while, which i never really did anything with. i pretty much spent the period between 1999 and 2001 becoming the grand devious. now i work on music all the the time, and i'm expecting my first LP to come out before the sun goes nova.
