    Artist History
The band was started in the early days of 1997 by Hvergelmer and Elgareth... Back then we rehearsed in a friends garage. Our intention was to create quality black metal with melodies. A thing not very common back then... Later on we developed our music into something more unique. After being a two man band, we recruited our bassman Astaroth which worked as an ignitor for our band. The rehearsals gave more and we became more productive. Our desire for another guitarist led to the discovery of Asateerul. Now working as a four-piece band everything felt satisfying. Now some old songs where trashed, and the production of new songs with two guitars started to take their form. With a still rather small amount of complete songs Magog decided to enter the studio. The first S/T demo was created containing four songs. Our music took a sudden turn and began developing into something referable to as folk/viking type of music. With a larger amount of songs in the luggage we came up with the idea of asking a violin-playing friend if he had some interest in black metal. Guess what? We tried him out and it worked perfectly. Eldhrimnir is now a member of the black metal war batalion of Magog. Now consisting of five members and an even larger library of songs we decided to create a new demo. Kingdom of Odin was born. A demo with three songs which by the way has recieved great complimants. This biography of the black metal-band Magog is almost finished but not the future for the band..

    Press Reviews
This one is taken from the e-zine Lunarhypnosis... http://www.metalprovider.com/lunarhypnosis/ Magog returns in 2002 with their third demo and quite possible there very best one yet. I personally still can't believe this band is unsigned after last year's brilliant 'Kingdom of Odin' demo, but then again we all know labels suck and there proving it big time here. On this new demo Magog further proves that there one of the best bands out there playing black, Viking, folk metal. A style which has been growing and getting bigger in the past few years, but out of all the bands that fall into this genre Magog is definitely the #1 one band in my opinion. On 'Hymns to the Ancient' the band has made a few additions to the music, which has resulted in their sound developing more, and its even grander then before. They have added the use of some brief clean vocals, and they now use keyboards. At any rate let's get to the music. The first song 'Opposing temptational Light' opens with some fast riffing and drumming, and of course lots of violin playing in the background. This song also has some excellent guitar riffs, and some great folkish sounding music present. Luckily on this demo the production is a bit better, and it seems like the vocals have improved greatly as well. The keyboards add a unique feeling to the music, and the clean vocals at the end of the song add an almost epic feeling to this song. Once again an excellent song composed by this great band. The second song and title track is actually an instrumental song. It begins with some slow, and very nice sounding acoustic guitars. You might even say they sound kind of sad. Plus the slow violin playing in the background even further proves that. Eventually after about 2 1/2 minutes the music picks up very dramatically, and turns into some fast drumming, and fast, but really excellent guitar playing. Shortly their after the music slows down again, and is nothing but slow acoustic guitars once more. The final song is also an instrumental piece, but this one opens with some speedy drumming and guitars plus some brief keyboard use. The formula for this song is very much like the previous one, but I like this song a lot better since it has even greater guitar and violin playing. Especially the last minute or so the violin is so beautiful sounding. It's tough to say which Magog demo I like best, but either way this one and the last one are absolute must hear recordings! It's weird because I've never heard a band that's in its demo stages that's been able to touch me in such a way as the music of Magog has. Their music has a fast aggressive and hate filled side, but they also have another side, which is like nothing I've ever heard before. I can only describe it as being brilliant and beautiful in ever sense imaginable. Why won't a record label sign these guys! This is something I'd really like to know, and I'm sure the band is starting to wonder what the hell they're going to have to do to get signed. Totentroll Records was actually going to sign the band and release a 7", but for whatever reason they decided not to. If the band doesn't get signed soon I'm going to start my own label and sign them damn it! All I can say is please check this band out and please help them in any way you can! This new demo is limited to just 200 copies so please get in contact with them soon an order it! http://magog.nu/ October 22, 2002 By Blackwinged 10 of 10
