Artist description
Four regular guys " who just look like dudes" to quote an early fan. Very intense, very down to earth music. Known for the passion of their live shows the Dancing Hobos have developed a very loyal and rabid following in the western part of North Carolina. The band is completely self-sufficiant, writing, producing and recording all their own CD's. A new Dancing Hobos CD will be released in early 2002 and the band will be expanding it's performance area to include more of the southeastern U.S. Thanks to all the fans who have made this web site successful. Old Age, Rain, and Angel of Love have been #1 in North Carolina and Angel of Love has been #1 on the national MP3 Americana chart. Thank you all and remember to share the Hobos with your friends. |

Artist History
The Dancing Hobos are a Shelby, NC based band that more or less falls into the Americana genre. The influences of folk-rock, roots-rock, traditional, and world music gives the group a unique and versatile style that appeals to a wide audience.
The Hobos released their first CD in 2001 and the response has been great. On MP3.com, the band has held the top three spots on the North Carolina folk-rock and Americana chart and their song "Angel of Love" has been #1 on the national MP3 Americana chart.
2002 brings the release of their second CD "Sacrifice", an all acoustic recording that showcases some of the roots and influences of the Dancing Hobos. The song "African Art", written by bassist Art Mauney has been successful on the MP3 world music charts and "What the River Knows" has become somewhat of an anthem for the live shows.
The energy level of a Hobos show can range from sweet and angelic (Rain) to ferocius (What the River Knows). They toss in a few of their favorite cover tunes, make lots of bad jokes (thats Arts job)and generally have one hell of a good time!! Check them out at one the many southeastern shows the do every year.

Press Reviews
Backdoor Messiah is one rocking folk song! The tune starts with a brisk and chipper acoustic guitar rhythm; a bongo joins to bang an end to the short introduction on the final two beats.
A strong, interesting voice begins the verse where the acoustic guitar is joined by a solid, energetic bass and, much to my surprise, a very realistic Hammond B3 sound played by a fun pair of hands. The keyboardist obviously has some travel on those fingers.
The vocalist reminds me a lot of Billy Vera, whose voice I love. It’s a powerful, emotional, smoky-club type of voice with more than a little extra character. He has achieved mastery of his instrument, always in control. I’m betting this cat gets laid as often as he wants.
The music is wonderful, fun and uplifting – even though this is almost a blues
