    Artist History
    Borjan Canev was born in 1973 in Skopje, Macedonia. He graduated as conductor from the Faculty of Music Art in 1997 with Fimcho Muratovski, and received his M.A. in 1998, at the State Music Academy "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, Bulgaria, with Vasil Kazandziev and Ivan Vulpe. In 2001, Canev specializes at the Royal College of Music - London with Neil Thomson, John Carewe and Edwin Roxburgh, where Canev simultaneously works as assistant conductor with Sir Colin Davis on Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni". Canev's master-classes and meetings with conductors Janos Fürst, Daniele Gatti and Sir Simon Rattle are of great importance for his career. Canev has conducted with the Symphony and Chamber Orchestra at the Faculty of Music Art in Skopje, the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Jeunesses Musicales Macedonia, the Symphony Orchestra at the State Music Academy "Pancho Vladigerov" - Sofia, the Chamber Orchestra Colegium~Musicum "Bankja", the Symphony Orchestra "Stanislav Binichki" - Belgrade, the Sinfonietta of the Royal College of Music - London, and others. Canev has also participated at the "Days of Macedonian Music Fesival", "Ohrid Summer Festival", "Skopje Summer Festival", "Young conductors, soloists and composers", Sofia, Bulgaria, "Zagreb Summer Festival", Zagreb, Croatia, etc. Since 1999, Borjan Canev has been permanent conductor of the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, working on several significant projects, among which Gustav Mahler's "3rd Symphony" and also he has worked with the "Balkan Philharmonic Orchestra", together with Emil Tabakov. In 2000, Canev conducted the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra in Zagreb, within the ensemble's tour in Croatia. In addition to his engagement in his country, Canev has also performed in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Croatia, England and Italy, and he is also the founder of the International Chamber Orchestra in London, which consists of musicians coming from the Royal College of Music. His repertoire comprises a number of chamber and symphonic pieces of baroque and contemporary composers, where Macedonian composers play a significant role. He has made recordings for The Macedonian State Television and Radio and the Bulgarian National Radio, and he has also released two compact discs: a promotional disc featuring the Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Jeunesses Musicales Macedonia at the "1999 Ohrid Summer Festival", and the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, entitled "20th Century Music", presenting a number of Macedonian composers.
