Artist History
Vanity Fare Biog
In the summer of 1968 – approximately one hundred years after the publication of William Makepeace Thackerays famous literary classic “Vanity Fair” the band Vanity Fare was born.
With harmony, melody and a slightly different spelling to the name, they achieved great popularity on the British and European Pop scene, when an up dated version of an old Sunrays number “Live For The Sun” hit the charts.
Going in the face of the incoming heavier trend of the late 60’s was deemed professionally dangerous at the time and you would have been forgiven for supposing that the band would be steemrolled out of the scene. Instead there close skilfully constructed harmony/melodic style was embrace by the public and a string of hits followed which gave Vanity Fare a unique place in 60/70 music history.
“Early In The Morning” & “Hitching A Ride” achieved Gold disc status and the group became known through out The World, in particular in the USA where both songs reach top 5. Indeed Hitching A Ride achieved cult status with the “Hippie” travellers of the time.
There warmth and cultured stage presence and their excellent vocal range and harmonies, which had established their sound, now brought them the opertunity to become a top class cabaret act. They became an ideal variety act for popular TV shows in Britian, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and indeed the United States. Recently being asked to perform live on Portugal’s Lottery show.
Some top venues Vanity Fare have played. Marco Polo Hotel Miami Beach, & Florida The Chequers Club Sidney, The Paris Olympia, The Royal Albert and Festival Halls, The Q E 2 and indeed The London Palladium. They have tour extensively in the former Eastern Europe of late and have and are a must at 60/70 festival all over Europe.
