    Artist description
Combine four lifelong friends who happen to be excellent musicians with a chick from Philly who happens to have staggering singing abilities, add a splash of vermouth, shake vigorously, top with an olive and you have a Tenbone Martini. Tenbone Martini combines the many musical influences and passions of each member into a seamless package of high-energy rock, funk, and soul. Bassist Morgan Conrad, drummer Jon Dewey and percussionist Taige Webster effortlessly create intricate, catchy beats. This expert rhythm section lays down undeniable grooves that set the foundation for Jake Knight's guitar pyrotechnics and Jacqui Hillman's smoldering vocals.

    Artist History
After years of playing with different bands in the Hollywood area, Jake joined Jon's local band, Soul Sauce, as a favor when they needed a new guitarist. Already friends, the two quickly formed a strong musical bond with their shared love for funk, rock, strong melodies, and moving songs. They decided to stick together when the band fell apart. After months of an unsuccessful and sometimes painful search for the right singer, Jacqui caught their attention the minute she walked into her audition. With her take it or leave it attitude, stunning blue eyes, and soulful yet powerful voice, it was clear that this team would be something special. As the newly united three were still in need of a bass player, the logical choice was Morgan, who had played with both Jon and Jake in separate bands over the previous few years. Known locally as the most dynamic and inventive bassist around, he was thrilled to hear from his old friends and eager to join what was sure to be something new and exciting. The unit was complete when longtime friend and percussionist/vocalist/medicine man/visionary, Taige, saw the band and signed on. The rest is history and the band is Tenbone Martini.

MUSIC CONNECTION July 3, 2000 TENBONE MARTINI at THE HOUSE OF BLUES, Hollywood MATERIAL: Contemporary modern rock with funk and hard-rock overtones. Tenbone Martini's songs are all about irresistible rhythm and memorable vocal performances. Although each song is mentionable, three of them exemplify aspects of their style: "Rizzo The Rat," had such a high energy modern-rock feel and funky thumbpopping bass lines, "Grade A," with its straight-ahead hard-rock approach, and "Set You Free," with very high energy and soulful vocalizations. MUSICIANSHIP: Through each of its players, Tenbone Martini is flawless in combining several influences. Jacqui Hillman's alto/soprano voice delivers melodies right on pitch with finesse, blending a soulful and bluesy style with the raw power of rock. Jake Knight's funky guitar rhythms are very tasteful and dynamic especially when he combines them with heavy overdriven power chords. His solos were exciting and laced here and there with a wah pedal. Morgan Conrad and Jon Dewey make an interesting funky yet hard-hitting team delivering grooves somewhere between Led Zeppelin and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. PERFORMANCE: Right from the start, Tenbone Martini showed a smart sense of staging by performing an instrumental intro song allowing their singer to make her own entrance. Jacqui had a magnetic presence, keeping the audience's attention. While visually appealing, the audience seemed to respond most to her vocal intensity. From Jake's metallic bowling shirt to Morgan's funky black jacket, t-shirt and shorts ensemble, each band member came off like an action figure of energy with strong contemporary style. SUMMARY: Tenbone Martini is comprised of talented players who are forging their own sound. The appeal of their game was widely felt, winning over the crowd at the House of Blues. If this gig was a good gauge, this group is ready for more than the local club scene. -Cole Coleman
