Artist description
Kristen is a singer/songwriter/musician. Her unique vocal style combines the rich vocal quality of the blues and ballad singers of the forties with alternative instrumental sounds and somewhat metaphorical lyrics. Vocally she has been influenced by Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Jude Christodal and Gwen Stefani. She admires the writing styles of Elvis Costello, Lou Reed, Sheryl Crow, and Jim Morrison.
Her first independent album, "Only Words," is an intimate, aesthetic experience, filled with haunting melodies and thought provoking lyrics. Although young by measure of years, she emits the soul of a veteran musician through her music, lyrics, and performance.

The best release since Shelby Lynne!!!
Reviewer:
Quite literally, this is the best new album of the year. The song American Poet is worth the price of the CD alone. To call it a tribute song would be an understatement. Ms. Cothron incorporates her own visions with the lyrics of the late Jim Morrison, making it the standout track on this fabulous debut. From the lonely The Space to the tongue and cheek social commentary of Consignment Shop, Ms. Cothron uses words and melodies rarely seen in a singer-songwriter, much less a newcomer. The production is stark, to say the least, but allows the listener to catch the subtle nuances that permeate her performances. With a gifted voice that is pure gold and songs that breath new life into the cliched-ridden mainstream, Ms. Cothron's CD ranks with the brilliance of last year's "I Am Shelby Lynne."
