Artist description Selected by Macleans Magazine as one of 100 Canadians to watch, and recently given his own one-hour national special on CBC's Definitely Not The Opera, 23 year-old Ian Janes is accomplished beyond his years. In February, Janes performed on the nationally televised East Coast Music Awards show and was nominated for three awards, including Best New Artist, Blues Artist, and Male Artist of the Year. For last year's millennium celebration, Janes appeared on CBC Television's national broadcast, 2000 Today. A singer, songwriter, producer, and performer, Janes has had music in his life for as long as he can remember. In November 1998, he released his debut CD, Occasional Crush. Distributed nationally by Tidemark Music and Distribution, this ten-song recording was written, arranged, and co-produced by Janes, elevating this young musician into the ranks of some of Canada's best new talent. Critics comments: "an astonishingly confident and mature collection, providing a steady, invigorating groove on every tune," writes the Halifax Daily News. "Janes delivers a full set of incredibly polished originals in a relaxed smokey voice that goes down easy," states Halifax's Chronicle Herald/Mail Star.
