Artist description
BURLEIGH DRUMMOND(AMBROSIA)MARY HARRIS(J.BUFFET,PINK FLOYD)MICK MAHAN(P.BENATAR)LARRY TREADWELL(T.DOLBY) The sensational band that is winning fans around the world with their new CD SMALL PARADE. An ensemble of professional musicians who strive to exceed the boundaries of well worn trends to capture a unique and invigoratingly fresh contemporary sound. The Southern California based band has released two CD's, REAL WORLD (1995) and SMALL PARADE (2001). Both are representative of the groups passion and successfully demonstrate their ability to deliver a signature palette of original music with an intimate style that identifies TIN DRUM. The band's nucleus is the husband-wife team of Burleigh Drummond and Mary Harris, two veterans of American rock music who continue to thrive individually, and together in TIN DRUM as strong singing and song writing partners. Drummond was a founding member and is still the drummer the '70's "supergroup" AMBROSIA. A band which helped define the sound of popular American music in the 1970's and 1980's with a string of hits and 5 subsequent GRAMMY nominations. Harris, a multi-talented musician and superb vocalist, has established a well earned reputation both in the studio, as well as "on the road" with PINK FLOYD, JIMMY BUFFET, STANLEY CLARKE, XTC and STUART COPELAND in the band ANIMAL LOGIC. Mick "the man" Mahan (bass guitar) and Larry Treadwell (lead guitar & mandolin) are superbly skilled musicians who give the band substantial depth and contribute further definition. Mahan is also the bassist for PAT BENATAR, while Treadwell (a past GRAMMY Nominated musician/composer in his own right) was a mainstay with THOMAS DOLBY. The band has very close ties, and continues to work with industry stars such as "THE LEGENDARY MASTER PRODUCER ALAN PARSONS" who contributed production assistance on "SURRENDER" from the bands debut album (REAL WORLD). The bands name comes from the Gunter Grass novel, THE TIN DRUM. A book about a boy who decides that staying young is preferable to growing up. The name is especially appropriate because the music of TIN DRUM can be incredibly playful, especially when Drummond's up-tempo percussion is complimented with crystal clear vocals and intoxicating harmonies. A deeper exploration reveals rich, complex arrangements and mature view of the world revealed through lyrics which are reflective of the ethereal content of our dreams, as well as the concrete issues we all face everyday. Individually, the tracks stand alone as examples of gifted composition. Collectively the works are compelling layers of a greater musical structure. The notion at the heart of TIN DRUM is that while "MUSIC NEVER AGES, IT DOES EVENTUALLY GROW UP". |

Press Reviews
"This is one of the most professional-sounding efforts on StarPolish--and rightly so, as these folks have been in the big for years, playing with the likes of Ambrosia and Alan Parsons. Tin Drum's music covers quite a bit of ground: the Toto-eque "Johnny" is the most poppish, while "Wailing Wall" and "South Africa Way" harbor more of a world-music influence. Of these tracks, I'm most impressed with the soundscape of "Wailing Wall", a smooth and stunning composition of thick percussion (Burundi drums, perhaps?) and well placed piano. At just under six minutes, the song ended way too soon for me--a good sign. Can't say they need much polishing on any level--they just need an audience to get where they're going."
