    Artist History
From the hills of Cincinnati, they came - six bastards with one goal: to play Ska. Our story begins with a Brandon Anglin - a lonely rudie in a punk rock world. Brandon's life long goal was to have a Ska band to claim as his own. He had tried many times to get kids to want to start a Ska band, but everybody turned him down with such answers as "Ska's too perky," and "Ska is for losers." Brandon was heartbroken. It seemed as though he would never start a Ska band and would die a lonely man. But then a miracle happened! He met this bass player/violin player named Mitch and was talking to him about music one day and asked Mitchell who his favorite bands were. Mitchell replied with "I like Green Day, and Reel Big Fish..." Brandon was shocked at what he had just heard! A kid like himself actually liked a Ska band, so he promptly asked Mitch if he wanted to start a Ska band - Mitchell agreed. So now we had two rudies, but let's face it...you can't have a band with just a guitarist, and a bassist, so next they looked towards the horns. Next they met a man who would get the rest of the band together - Sean Locey. Now Sean was an excellent sax player. He was in the top Jazz band at the school where they all went (School For Creative and Performing Arts), and was (and still is) one hell of an improviser. Sean was key. They needed him, and Mitch and Brandon asked him to come along - he accepted. Sean had somewhat close ties with other horn players in the school and asked these two kids Chap and Anders if they would like to join. They both accepted! Now all that was left to get was a drummer. Getting a drummer who is willing to play Ska is a hard feat, and this was no exception trying to find one for this band. Sean knew this hardcore bitch named Ian. Ian's response to everything was "fuck you!" A perfect attitude for a Ska band. Ian said yes! So there they were, 6 kids ready to rock out, but still - they needed a name. Brandon thought of something like "3 feet deep," and other wacky names like that, but nothing seemed to fit, until one day this kid named Damien Furr said to the band "Well you guys are all a bunch of smiley faced bastards!" And so it was determined that "Smiley-Faced Bastards," fit the best, and would be the name of the band. So now the bastards were practicing like crazy - everyday after school, on weekends...nonstop! They covered such songs as Guttermouth's "Lipstick," and Reel Big Fish's "Sell Out." Well actually, 5 of the Bastards were playing nonstop - Anders was the downfall. He would just sit there at every practice and do nothing, so he was terminated from his position as Coronet player. After he left, Brandon was so inspired by Anders' laziness that he wrote a song about it called "Tag Along." But now the bastards were down to 5. Well now it was the summer of 2000 and the bastards signed up for the Bogart's rumble. So, the bastardly 5 took the stage and ended up getting 6th the final time they played, but that was ok. They had now built a small fan-base because of it, and would get them the opportunity to play even more shows. Well now the summer was over and it was time for school again. Ian was best friends with this kid named Elliott Sussman. Now Elliott had previous ties with Ian because of this band called "Elliott and The Uglies," in which Elliott played guitar, and Ian played drums for. Ian asked Elliott to come to a practice of SFB one day, and Elliott said "sure." So the rest of the Bastards were rocking out, and Elliott all the sudden steps on the mic during "Skatanic," and starts screaming the chorus. That's when the Elliott and the rest of the bastards knew it would work. They asked Elliott to join the band, and now that's the way the same lineup goes today. Smiley-Faced Bastards have played many various shows, even beating out Bottom Line in a round of Bogart's High School Band Challenge. They continue to rock out the show, and love their "Tag Along," fans. Smiley-Faced Bastards are not your average Ska band either. They twist Punk and Ska to make a unique sound. Smiley-Faced Bastards really whip the llama's ass.
