Artist description
windcheater has been making music for, oooh lets see, a year and a half or so. the first 6 tunes you find on this page make up the tracklisting of windcheater's first demo cd, inovatively titled, 'windcheater'. the cd contains mastered and tweaked versions of the mp3's you find here. thats not to say the mp3's are that inferior, they just represent, um, shall we say 85% completed versions. that percentage can go up to 95% in some cases, and even down to about 75% in others. the average is probably about 85%, but then i'm not one to split hairs (87% * might be more accurate). if you are interested in receiving this 100% (no quibbles there) finsihed cd, you can contact the big w.c. at alexrey37@hotmail.com it'll only cost you postage. probably. a few collaborations in the pipeline, so look out for them.

well here's some 'stats' hot off the press from TOURLAVILLE, a very popular artiste here on mp3.com. anyhow, he's been reviewing lots of late and here's what he made of the ol' w.c. , for 'we're getting there'. everyone's favourite, functional mac/japanese train announcement sample type tune...

and here's what gods of music had to say about the same tune...
While it’s hardly customary to start a review of a track by discussing its technical attributes, Windcheater’s engineering almost takes front and center for this release. We’re Getting There is without a doubt one of the cleanest and richest sounding submissions I’ve ever received, if not the cleanest. In fact half of the Electronica you pick up off the shelf won’t sound as good as this track. The snares are crisp, the bass drums have just the right amount of sub bass and the bass licks are thick while leaving enough breathing room for the assortment of synths/vocals/piano dancing about. The mixing is fantastic, with especially good use of stereo effects on several of the instruments and a filtered sweep on the piano.
So what about the song itself? We’re Getting There could be described as a hybrid between modern break beat music and old-school funk with trace amounts of Latin music influence. In fact all kinds of sound elements, from sampled acoustic instruments to analog bleeps, are incorporated and then laced with some mangled voice samples. These sort of “electronic soup” tracks, similar (at least in spirit) to MAARS’ “Pump up the Volume” and 80’s era Bill Laswell releases, have been notorious in the past for sounding like the artist went through his entire sample collection at random over a constant beat. Windcheater manages to generally avoid this trap, only losing his direction temporarily in a couple of places. Despite this the track may have benefited from a transpose in the bass line at some point. For a song clearing 6 minutes it is usually a good idea to keep the center of the composition changing at least slightly from time to time.
On first listen, the listener is likely to be impressed mostly with the technical aspects of the track, for the reasons stated above. After repeated listens, however, the track does become infectious and will make its way on to many GOM readers’ play lists for at least a short while. If it turns out that We’re Getting There isn’t your bag you can at least use it as a reference for mastering your own tracks.
check out freak control's mix 10 as well at http://stations.mp3s.com/stations/360/freakcontrolmix12.html this is what he reckons on 'we're getting there'...
Very uplifting track here with some clever cutting and pasting of samples. Medium paced drumbeats and Japanese female voice saying unintelligible things (to me anyway), lots of breaks, riffs and sound FX throughout. Play this one loud and dance in your kitchen? Downloaded this one for sure. EXCELLENT!
