Artist description
Black Steel Pony was formed in the summer of 2000 in Nashville, TN. The group was founded by guitarist and lead singer Cody Shipley and bassist Aaron Clouse. Southside, as they were known at the time, played just a few gigs around town until parting ways with their drummer. The search for a new drummer reunited them with their old friend Bryan Doersam. The trio quickly developed a chemistry together and formed Mud Bone. They performed under this name for a couple of months until deciding to change the name once again to Black Steel Pony.
The musical style of BSP is a mix of traditional blues and original tunes with a very personalized sound. With similarities to the old school sounds of B.B. King, Freddie King, Luther Allison, Albert King, and Muddy Waters and newer artists such as The North Mississippi All Stars, The Derek Trucks Band, and Jonny Lang Black Steel Pony draws a very diverse and unique sound well versed in both tradition and originality.
BSP have been making quite a bit of noise in their native town of Nashville, TN. The trio has performed at places like Windows On the Cumberland, Springwater, The French Quarter, and many others.

Artist History
Cody Shipley, the man behind the harmonica, guitar, and vocals of Black Steel Pony, was born in Nashville, TN and raised by two parents with diverse musical backgrounds. His father spent a number of years playing guitar and touring with Ronnie Sessions while his mother spun the music as a DJ for WSM 98.6 in Nashville. At an early age, Cody developed a passion for guitar after being introduced to the soulful sounds of B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and other blues legends. For hours on end, he studied the powerful styles of these great masters while also trying to develop a unique sound all his own. Throughout high school, Cody played with various rock bands while continuing to develop his blues guitar and writing style on the side. At the age of 17, Cody started playing the Nashville bar scene with local blues musician Moe Jackson. Now at the age of 21, Cody is one of the hottest young guitar players on the Nashville circuit. Being the co-creator, lead writer, and driving front man of Black Steel Pony, Cody brings the guitar chops and vocal strength that gives this band a dynamic presence and unlimited potential for success.
Aaron Clouse, a native of Alabama, moved to Nashville, TN at the age of 12. He grew up admiring the blues sounds of Freddie King, Robert Cray, and the Allman Brothers Band. A deep passion for listening to music led Aaron to start playing tenor saxophone in school. Having a strong attraction to the sound and power of low toned instruments, Aaron quickly picked up and mastered the baritone sax, bass trombone, and Tuba. Several years after leaving school, an intense desire to keep music in his life led Aaron back to his passion for the blues and his bass roots. Four years after purchasing a 69 Fender bass and mastering the fundamentals of it, he co-found the blues-rock band Black Steel Pony with guitarist and long-time friend Cody Shipley. With the influences of Victor Wooten, Willie Dixon, and the late Allen Woody on his fingers, Aaron brings a unique combination of soul and style to the low end of Black Steel Pony that cannot be ignored.
Bryan Doersam, born and raised in Nashville, TN, has been behind the kit for 9 years. Within that period, he has been the timekeeper for such local acts as Spiral, Logic, and currently the blues-rock group Black Steel Pony. At an early age, Bryan developed a diverse musical taste for the jazz sounds of Glen Miller, the monster rock of AC/DC, the pop feel of Michael Jackson, and the classical flow of Devorak’s New World Symphony. At the age of 10, he began his musical quest on the saxophone in school band. After 5 years and multiple achievements received on the sax, Bryan taught himself to play drums by imitating the MTV thunder gods of the day and quickly took over the skins in his high school jazz band. Taking influences from his drumming heroes Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Neal Pert (Rush), Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band), and Yonrico Scott (Derek Trucks Band), Bryan brings a high energy, colorful feel to the unique sound of Black Steel Pony.
