Artist History
Afternoon Version was formed in October 1994 in Tbilisi Georgia. There are five members in the group with different backgrounds like: art, medicine & classical mu-sic. In the beginning we were playing mixture of “new wave” & “post-punk” music. We were influenced by bands like Cure, U2, Depeche Mode, solo artists like David Bowie, Peter Gabriel and others. As the time passed, our interests had changed more towards electronic, experimental and more alternative style. At that time we were and still are inspired by groups like Underworld, Orbital, Leftfield, Massive At-tack, artists like Bjork, Tricky.
We work in both live and electronic set directions. Afternoon Version’s live perform-ance is a mixture of electronic beats & samples with various live instruments includ-ing vocals, two guitars, keyboards, bass, drums & percussion. We’ve been collaborating with musicians of many different styles and backgrounds: Indian folk instrumentalists, Georgian & other ethnic artists, DJs, classical music performers, jazz musicians as well as visual artists. Our passion is dance music, experimenting is our credo.
In 1994 we played at the opening of the prestigious Georgian nightclub “Kazbegi”. In 1996 Afternoon version was nominated, as the best group, best live group and front man of the group Sikha was winner in the nomination “Best Arrangement” at the Georgian Popular Music Festival “LIGA-96”. On the same festival the group was awarded the “GRAND PRIZE”. During following years we played at several big Geor-gian alternative music festivals. During 1999 - 2000 we recorded the album “To-gether” at our home studio in Georgia.
Since year 2000 because of general decline in Georgian alternative & underground music most of the Afternoon Version members left the country. Currently we are in 3 different countries exploring different musical genres & styles but we are still collabo-rating with each other as well as working on our solo projects.
Just recently one of our tracks "Something" has been selected & released on Peo-plesound.com’s compilation CD complimenting DJ Dave Pearce's new dance column feature in Daily Star newspaper in UK.
