Artist History
Imagine seeing colors and images everytime you
listen to music. As if the music itself takes on
a physical form right in front of you, different
colors fade in and out, sequenced to the melody
and rhythm. That's what it's like for elecronic
musician, Sean Fry. "It's pretty annoying.
Everytime I listen to music, I literally can see
it in my minds eye, as if it's a visual thing. I
think that's the way my brain makes sense of
music."
Well whatever it is, it works. Sean's music
seems to have a distinctly visual feel to it,
much of it would go just as well in the
background of a movie as on the the dancefloor.
"For The Good Of All Concerned" is Sean's latest
full-length effort, released this year on Vex
Records. The album features a slightly different
sound for Sean, being a little more bass oriented
and intense than his debut EP "Acrosluke
Firewalker," released last year under his moniker
'Acrosleuth.' Blistering and exhilarating, the
hard to find album will creep into your
subconscious and linger there, slowly growing,
evolving, changing the way you hear music. "I
just was really into this idea of making music
sound totally rhythmically intense as hell and
incredibly colorful and beautiful at the same
time. I don't really hear that too much in most
music. I think really great electronic music is
something that you can shake your ass to and then
be able to listen to that same track on a pair of
headphones while going to sleep and hearing it in
a totally different way."
Raised in Southern California, Sean grew up
mostly in the Orange County area spending lots of
time drawing. He was also an avid skateboarder
and baseball player. It wasn't until his
sophomore year in high school, when he would be
inspired to pick up the bass guitar. "I heard
Primus and it warped my mind forever." As a self
taught bassist he played in a couple of bands,
but mostly would just jam with really good
drummers in the area. "I met this dude who was
like 28 when I was working at guitar center, and
he was just about the greatest drummer I'd ever
heard in my life. Playing with him forced me to
really practice and get better. That's what
happens when you play with people who are better
than you. You start to feel like you suck so you
get really motivated."
And then while in college, he discovered the
possibilities of making music on his computer.
"I found out about Aphex Twin and Squarepusher
and Luke Vibert and I discovered that they were
making music on their own equipment in their
bedrooms. That was so far out of what I thought
was possible at the time that I had to figure out
how to do it myself. So I bought a bunch of gear
and taught myself."
As for the future, Sean eagerly looks forward to
producing more music as well as collaborating
with other musicians. He is also a talented
artist and likes to sketch whenever possible.
