    Press Reviews
"Central PA's Tracer happen to be four of the nicest, most good-natured guys on the planet, but you might not ever know it from 'Darker Days Lie Ahead'. The 23-minute EP features a collection of six of the most melancholic and pessimistic songs the punk band has ever produced, and some of their best work. With lines like "I've hung myself by your every word/ Every syllable, another barb in this rusty wire noose," and "only the architecture evolves," Darker Days is not bound to cheer you up on a bad day, but it does stand as a powerful example of the kind of songwriting Tracer is capable of. Tracer follows a formula all their own in creating their sound, leaping erratically from lightning-paced pop punk double-time to slower hardcore in the blink of an eye, kind of like Lifetime meets Lagwagon. Bassist and lead vocalist Marc Matter's singing recalls not only the snottiness of Ben Weasel, but the lilt of Hankshaw's Harold or Sensefield's Jonathon Bunch. Gut-wrenching death metal screams are an occasional occurrence, and guitarist Bubba takes over lead vocal duties on two tracks to have his say as well. Rounding out the rest of the spectrum are newcomer Shawn Stewart on guitar and the tireless Kyle Brosious on drums. Highlights of the EP include opener "Twenty-Eight," a crie de cour steeped in bitterness, and "Edgewater," a chronicle of the boredom and ennui felt all too often by those growing up and growing old in small Pennsylvania towns. Closer "Longshot" finishes the job, featuring one of the fastest bass intros ever put to tape as well as lots and lots of screaming. All in all, Darker Days Lie Ahead stands as a solid release from a hardworking band." -www.galleryofsound.com-
