If silence was once golden, it has now turned brass. We are living in a time where music has become omnipresent, fashionable and even indispensable. The members of Solarcade have been perfecting their talent individually for at least ten years each. Essentially, Solarcade is a forty-nine year old soul with the face of a fifteen-month-old baby, yet only in their mid-twenties; imagine the possibilities. The Band is sponsored by 26 RedTred, Counter Culture, and Blackfly Sunglasses. It may sound like Solarcade doesn’t need any help, but it is thanks to an endless list that has made it possible to appear so. It is due to the tenacity of each member of the band that has achieved our current status, but we still haven’t ‘arrived’. Thomas Edison once said, "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." We haven’t missed an opportunity and aren’t willing to do so. Please excuse me; I think I hear someone knocking at the door.

Pomilla-guitar
A Houston, Texas native Pomilla developed a passion for the guitar and it’s all thanks to Guns and Roses and the MTV generation. Pomilla received his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University while working on Death Row as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice State Prison. After graduation, Pomilla moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music bringing with him his Southern guitar technique lined with influences such as Stevie Ray Vaughn and ZZ Top. Pomilla has been greatly influenced by some of guitar’s finest players including Slash, Dean DeLeo, Kim Thayil, Jerry Cantrell, Kirk Hammet, Stone Gossard, and The Edge. After years of searching and luck on his side, Pomilla believes he found the right blend of musicianship and camaraderie.
Jonathan Hill-bass
After playing Jazz throughout high school in Cupertino, CA Hill received his Bachelors Degree in Music from University of Southern California. The avid sportsman as well as bassist keeps things in check with rock climbing, snow boarding, and skydiving. Hill’s musical influences are as flexible as his playing range from jazz to rock, including Thelonius Monk, Metallica, Chopin and Faith No More. Hill’s individual favorites include Victor Wooten, Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius and Sabo Romo.
Heath Cooley-drums
Cooley was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. By the age of 15 Cooley was obsessed with music, bought his first drum set and was playing in bars and nightclubs. A move to San Diego prompted Cooley to join a psychobilly band dubbed The Hooligans, a move that lasted 41/2 years. As Cooley’s music pallet began to change so ended his stint in Rockabilly. Cooley joined LA pop rock group Edward The First, floated around as a hired gun and continued to search “the band”. An ad in Music Connection brought Cooley and Pomilla together wherein they found bassist John Hill and began to construct songs to suit the singer they would later find to be Paul Van.
Paul Van-voice
South African born Van found his voice so-to-speak, while temporarily filling in for the frontman of a high school rock band. A music fan quickly turned into a music maker with the inception of ‘The Outsiders’, a band Van created and headed in Johannesburg. The Band went on to release two albums in the course of four years as well as earn a nomination for an OKTV (the equivalent of a US Grammy) for Best Rock Album and grab the 2 spot on the alternative charts. The Band went on to tour with Depeche Mode as opening support for the Songs of Faith and Devotion Tour in 1994. Van ventured to the states where after brief stints with various bands he found his home with Solarcade.

Press Reviews
Soulful Solarcade Rocks San Pedro- With a lead vocalist that makes Billy Idol sound like ancient history, plus potent lyrics and fetching beats, Solarcade is this fall's newest and hottest sun flare. Formed six months ago, Solarcade consists of vocalist Paul Van, guitarist Pomilla, and drummer Heath Cooley, and bassist John Hill. The band's name was derived from Cooley's original idea of calling the band Soul Arcade, but after considering the vast multitude of musical groups with "Soul" in their name, they chose Solarcade as the group's final tag. The members of Solarcade were pulled together from all around the world: Van lived in Johannesburg, South Africa, where in 1994 his former band, the Outsiders toured with Depeche Mode; Pomilla resided in Houston, Texas; Cooley originated from Arizona. Solarcade may be a fresh band, but they're definitely not amateurs. Considering their devotion to music and respect for other musicians, Solarcade will be anything but another one-hit wonder in the music world. The band gets most of their influences from rock groups like Radioehead, Depeche Mode, U2, and the Get Up Kids. "I'd owe the majority of my musical influence to guitarist Slash of Guns 'n Roses, and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots," said Pomilla. The group is currently collaborating with a non-profit organization called The Art of Elysium that works with children in hospitals. Solarcade performed September 28, at Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse in San Pedro, playing songs such as "When She Comes," "Surrender," and "Down," to warm up a cool night with poetic zeal. Pomilla's heavy riffs had just the right chemistry with Van's seductive vocalism and the groups overall tone. Solarcade will perform October 12 at the Lush Club, 2020 Wilshire, Santa Monica and again November 9 at the Joint, 8771 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles. Solarcade - Demo CD From dreamy and thickly-drenched jangle pop "When She Comes" to the sly folk-rock "Walk Away" to the hard hitting "Surrender", I had figured that Solarcade ran the gamut of "Alternative", in the most general sense. The guitar tone in the final cut on this demo CD, however, made me realize that they may have something more than just good song, they seem to know how to put sound together in layers and combine it with melody. I tip my hats to you guys, well done. Review from Orange Entropy Records. -members.aol.com/Mononsterzine/Reviews.

Singer Paul Van left South Africa five years ago where he was singing for The Outsiders, who had become immensely successful after opening for Depeche Mode on the "Songs Of Faith And Devotion" tour. His success followed him when they finally landed in Los Angeles. Van's vocals and strong stage presence eerily conjure up similarities to Bowie, Hutchence, and Gahan among others. However, this band isn't merely a backdrop for a powerful singer. The fans have passed their verdict: Solarcade is a must-see show! -Rollingstone |
