Artist History
Atomic Box formed on the real cusp of the new millennium, January 1,
2001. Emerging from the nuclear meltdown of multiple musical efforts, the
Reverend Dr. Atomic, Special Agent Greene, DJ SubVert, and Miss Kit decided to
join forces, forgoing all allegiances to the nations of man and God alike.
Besides pulling from such diverse musical styles as industrial, trance, punk,
and metal, Atomic Box relies on a healthy dose of Fifties-era, post-bomb
paranoia, sci-fi imagery, and 2001-ish futurism to create an aesthetic
that is at once comfortable in its familiarity, and disturbing in it's off-kilter
approach to electronic dance music.
Atomic Box's music is naturally at home on the dance floor, with all the pounding
beats and sweeping melodies that a body can take. But the band's real strength
lies in their ability to translate the quantized grooves and sequenced bleeps of
their studio recordings into a live show filled with the energy and spontaneity of
any rock and roll act. To really experience Atomic Box, you need to see them play.
The members of Atomic Box have a long and storied career in the NYC industrial/gothic
scene. Singer/Programmer the Rev. Dr. Atomic originally fronted the
almost-internationally successful Marlow's Lie, and is a founder of one of NYC's
longest running industrial/gothic monthly parties, Contempt. He was joined in ML by
Atomic Box percussionist/programmer Greene, who, along with his AB duties, also plays
keyboards in NYC's Anathema Device and Uberjerk (where he's been known to pick up the
acoustic guitar from time to time). SubVert was the original keyboardist in the NYC
sleaze-rock band Betty's Trash, and is currently the house DJ (and one of the founders)
of Contempt. And finally, Miss Kit, vocalist, spends the rest of her time singing for
the band The Mirror Reveals, a gothic excursion into the darkest corner of society's
collective soul. She's also the band's enforcer, and believe us when we say she can
kick your ass any day of the week.
