Artist description
Self-described "desert blues" is a tame description
of the wall of metal noise they create live.
Stylistically, SOS fit comfortably with the Man's
Ruin sound but could easily be called groove metal
or beer drinking metal. Sonically, the music is
guitar driven with thick distortion, multiple
effects, heavy bass, dual screaming vocals over
thundering drums accompanied by plenty of break
downs and tempo changes to keep everyone surprised.
Not rigid enough to be considered metal nor
quiet or simple enough to be considered rock.
Whatever you want to call it: Sludge, Space Rock,
or our personal favorite Desert Blues, you won't
find this sound anywhere else.

Artist History
Born in October 1999 Sons of Serro have been honing
their skills underground since moving to Arizona
from native 29 Palms, CA. They have been writing,
playing house parties, and collecting momentum to
overtake the rock scene by any means necessary.
Influenced by great bands and our local heroes
Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, and Fu Manchu
along with dissonant metal like the Deftones and
Black Sabbath at their best. You might even find a
little of the heavier Smashing Pumpkins sound.
Sons of Serro consist of ex-members of 509
(PJ-guitar/vox, Kyle-drums, and John-bass/vox) a
so-cal power punk trio and local party favorites.
Although the two sounds are completely different,
the power is the same. Pure, hard, aggressive,
riff-driven music with tons of emotion and talent.
With the help of new bassman Clint Cunningham
(John is now on guitar) the band is now complete
and ready to emerge as the new standard in our
genre.

Press Reviews
As any local rocker knows, Hollywood Alley's audio
setup produces perhaps the loudest sound of any
club in the Valley. When I was first introduced to
the fledgling rock band SONS of SERRO there last
week, I temporarily lost hearing in my remaining
"good" ear! I didn't mind. After all, isn't that
what hard rock is supposed to be, at its most
primal root?
After thier first song, though, they asked the
soundman to turn thier vocal monitors up to be on
par with the volume coming out of thier guitar
amps. The soundman would not oblige , (for health
reasons?) So the Sons turned thier guitars down a
bit. And they didn't lose much in this downscaling
process, because behind the wall of screaming
guitars and all-out gutteral vocals, it's clear
that this band's sound is built around the lead
guitarist's hypnotic melodies. These sound like a
cross between early U2 in scales and harmonics and
desert "stoner rock" pioneers Kyuss (or even Kyuss
-influenced megastars Tool). While these influences
seem clear, it is just as evident that the Sons'
guitarist has his own distinct musical personality,
complimented wonderfully by surging bass lines and
crafty drumwork. Catch these rising stars at thier
next show. Bring earplugs. Really.
