Artist History April Beth Armstrong is currently based in the Boston, MA area with continued close ties to her family and friends in Connecticut. April has a very versatile voice and found it hard to limit her demo CD to just four styles, but you can find a wide representation of her skills on this four-song release: Track one is an oldie cover song of Dusty Springfield's; the other three tracks are original tunes by Harry King, one of which April helped write: Track 2, "Love Song" (the one April helped write) is a power pop ballad, track 3 is a bluesy rock tune ("Cruisin' from the Blues") and track four ("How Will I Know?") is a soundtrack ballad written for a Sundance Film Festival movie. She enjoys singing all different kinds of music, from opera arias to hard rock songs, and has done so in her part-time capacity as a wedding and reception singer, party host, karaoke host, opening act. While she has her own distinct voice, she slips easily into many different singing styles and has more than once been told that her listeners think they are listening to the original recordings! She enjoys singing in the styles of Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Billy Joel, Christina Aguilera, Eagles, Aretha, gospel, Guns-N-Roses, Righteous Brothers, Roberta Flack, Indigo Girls, Madonna, Saint-Saens, Bizet, Broadway, Matchbox 20, Sarah McLachlan, just to name a few.... There are few styles she doesn't enjoy trying out! April has been performing in some capacity since before the age of five, starting out as an actress, doing everything from print ads to national commercials to professional stage theater. She started singing in middle school, but her focus from acting to a singing career began in college. While in college (she graduated from Colby and also took courses at Southern CT State U.), April sang solo OFF-BROADWAY as well as in dinner theatre, sang at Disney World, opened concerts for Livingston Taylor (as part of one of her two college acappella groups) and Rick James (as a solo performer) and performed at numerous venues in New England and NY. She enjoys camping, reading, movies, embroidery, hanging out with friends and family, FERRETS!, and of course, singing at the top of her considerable lungs to the car radio when alone. She also does charity work in Appalachia in eastern Kentucky, going on a work trip every year for the last 14 years to refurbish homes for the rural poor. She is currently feeding herself by doing medical transcription at home in MA and singing at corporate parties (she has lots of repeat business!), weddings, etc. She is also preparing for her own July 2002 wedding and buying her first house with her software-engineer-fiance, Shawn, also a Colby grad-they've been together for 10 years. As her album title implies, she is hoping this demo will lead to a record contract and a full-time singing career, so if you need a recording artist, "SIGN ME"! Otherwise, enjoy anyway!
