Artist description
It seems that when you look at the history of past and present rock stars, the more relevant artists seem to have to the same sort of collective reasons for choosing the field in the first place. “I had a calling,” or “it was in my genes” - it’s almost as if the decision was written in the stars. In the case of Alan Wolstrup - singer and guitarist of ACID 7 - both reasons apply. “Music was my passion, even in my youth. I knew it was what I wanted to do,” he says. And that is followed by, “My father was a successful musician who toured the States most of his life. My grandfather was also a successful country star who recorded several hits.” Need we say more?
ACID 7 was formed in 1998.“We knew it was magic from the start,” says Wolstrup. The group uses hooky vocal lines, insightful lyrics and a slammin’ rhythm section to form their own unique brand of music. Their new EP is a great example what the band is to trying to express and communicate musically. It was produced and engineered by Mark Dutton and mixed by Bradley Cook whose credits include the Foo Fighters, Tool and Everclear. It was mastered by Eddy Schreyer (Korn, Offspring, and System of a Down to name a few). Sonically, the CD lies somewhere between The Foo Fighters, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins with a bit of Bowie and Beatles to boot.
To add to the credibility of the bands successful upsurge, ACID 7 is currently filling clubs throughout the Southern California area including The Key Club, The Whisky and The Dragonfly. When speaking about their music, it becomes obvious that Acid 7 is very dedicated. “We believe that the band has created something genuine. Sure, it’s about our life experiences but we’ve tried to fashion a place in the music for the audience. We think that we give them something that they can identify with. I believe there is a reason why we are all here. We like being able to touch people with songs and music…something with depth and purpose.”
In the end, it seems that ACID 7 have their priorities in order when it comes to their personal motivation. “We play what we play because it feels natural to us. We do what we do because we love it. Sure, money and success is great, but I really care about writing songs with great energy and meaning. I want to give the audience something that offers a new perspective, maybe even a feeling of happiness…at least for a minute or so.” In listening to ACID 7’s new EP, you can hear and feel that. It comes across in the band’s style and sound. And after all is said and done, isn’t that what it’s all about?
