Artist History
Brothers Chris and Mike Daniel grew up playing music together. In and out of several groups, the two teamed up with fellow muscian and friend, John Glosson, who had also been in many bands. The trio united with the purpose of creating catchy music they enjoy. All with similar musical influences, the group gelled quickly and formed what is known today as "Waybetter". |

Press Reviews
What makes a good band in these days of fabricated studio pop and techno computer crap? Same things that have always made a good band, folks: catchable tunes, hummable melodies, competent instrumentation, and that extra undefinable quality that sets this band apart from the others. If tempered properly, these elements can make a great band -- the kind that stands the test of time. Waybetter has all those things. They're brave, uncomprimising, catchy, they play their instruments well, and the music is fun to boot. It's indie power pop with an edge. John Glosson, singer/bass player and principal songwriter, wields his bass like a weapon, playing chords and notes that would never occur to someone who writes this kind of music. Usually there's a cop-out of some kind. Usually someone takes the easy way out. Not Waybetter. If you heard John's songs with the Steven King Trio, you know he can sing and play. For Waybetter, he pushes his limits. And Mike and Chris, the Daniel brothers, are along for the ride, driving the music with great beats and chiming guitar lines that haunt while they all rock out together. If there's a weak link here, I can't hear it, and you won't, either. "Me Too Iguana" opens with each band member entering the scene -- first drums, then fuzzy bass, then guitar -- just making a faint impression. As the song gets underway, and Glosson sings of the fear of a new love/lust, those elements come together beautifully, and the song just rocks. A great opening. The next song, "T. Rex Reaches Out," rolls nicely thanks to Mike's spirited drumming, while John sings of the one who pushes him away. They let loose a little on this one, but not just to prove they can. It totally serves the song, like a hardened Beach Boys tune (complete with "Oohs" for the chorus). And with a song that bears the name T. Rex, you'd have to expect a little ferocity, wouldn't you? "Bitter Wine From Sour Grapes" continues the evolution, showing the frollicking good time side of Waybetter. I especially like the country-like chorus, where things slow down to an almost honky-tonk rhythm. But it's all rock. It's all good. It's Waybetter. And that's all that matters isn't it? I can't wait to hear more. |
