Artist History
Formed in the spring of 1999, Sexico originally consisted of Ned Epps (drums), Ryan Kanost (trumpet), Luke Wright (keyboard), Craig Olsen (vocals and trumpet), and Travis Warner (bass). The yet-unnamed band unsuccessfully tried to cover Cake's "You're Never There". Sensing that a change of instrumentation was needed, the band kicked out Luke because keyboards are wussy, and Travis taught Ryan how to play guitar. Meanwhile, Ned became obsessed with drums, sold his Crown Victoria to buy a custom drum set, and imprisoned himself in his basement for the next four years. Ryan realized that he had no life, and fell madly in love with a crappy Yamaha EG303 guitar. Man it sucked. The relationship was not meant to be, however, as Ryan dumped Yamaha and found renewed love in a Les Paul. Needless to say, Ryan and Ned became proficient at their respective instruments. Travis, on the other hand, had already begun the rock and roll lifestyle, bypassing the whole music part. He never got any better at the bass. In January of 2000, Sexico (then named Squadcar) began to prepare for the Manhattan High School Battle of the Bands even though they were terrible and had no lead singer after Craig abandoned the band to pursue his interest in growing facial hair. The band then added balding bass-player/vocalist Travis "Old Man" Rogers and proceeded to make fools of themselves in Battle of the Bands. Despite its lack of talent, the band went on to achieve fame and women during the summer of 2000. Ryan Kanost then poisoned Travis Rogers, leaving Travis Warner, the younger Travis, to take over on bass (he had been playing guitar). Ryan became lead "vocalist" and the trio was renamed Bloody Massacre. At this point, the band's focus shifted from music to petty vandalism and loose women. Then came John. At the same time, Ned Epps spent his time in between playing drums by thinking of words that rhymed with Mexico. Once again, the band was renamed and Ryan Kanost once again poisoned Travis Rogers. John left the band in the spring of 2002, taking all of his sound equipment with him. The band is now stuck with a crappy name and no stuff, but Ned, Ryan, and Warnman plan on reforming in Lawrence in the fall of 2002 once they steal a PA and a bass amp. |
