Artist History
Lionel Kilberg is an exceptionally insightful folk
artist with performances dating back to the 1950's,
who has collaborated at one time or another with most
of the "name" acts in folk music. He has a vast
repertoire of traditional songs and stories of many
genres, and indeed has added many of both to the
tradition via his own experiences. He has written more
than 1,000 songs full of warmth, humor and penetrating
insights. These draw upon his varied experiences as
a world traveler, Social Worker, and citizen of his
era. His satire makes points that become clear to his
listeners. There are more than 8 albums of his
original songs to date. He plays numerous instruments
including woodwinds, accompanies himself on keybords,
guitar and upright bass. His technique of accompanying
others while playing the large upright bass horizontally
on his knee has come to be known as Kilberg style bass
picking. Lionel's hallmark is the special rapport he is
able to establish with an audience from the outset of
each performance. It is never long before his audiences
participate and make the evening a moving experience
for all. |

Press Reviews
"Irreverant, Impertinent, and hilarious songs of
social significance."
"A gentleman with very special insight into every
situation as his songs seem to touch on every subject."
"His first aim in music is a good time. His whimiscial
choice of material and presentation is charming.
He is also the only performer I've seen who can use
an upright bass as his only accompaniment with great
effect."
